The trophy was first awarded in the 1990-91 season.
Bill Gallie was a local legend and won the Australian Breaststroke Championship in 1925 and became a Life Member of the Club after acting as Hon Secretary and Race Referee for over 20 years from 1963. Bill coached at Drummoyne Swimming Pool for many years and taught a number of the older swim club members how to swim.
Could everyone that took home trophies handed out at the recent pool side presentations please bring them back to the swim club room by Saturday 13 February 2021.
We’ll need them back to arrange engraving for this season’s winners.
This coming Saturday we’ll be handing out Championship and Point Score Trophies and medals for the U14 to open age groups. The swimmers listed below are up for awards so please make sure you’re at swim club to pick up your prize.
We are very lucky to have John Coates AC as a special guest at swim club this weekend. John Coates has been a fixture in the Australian sporting landscape for decades and is the current President of the Australian Olympic Committee and the Vice President of the International Olympic Committee.
John has recently returned from Tokyo where he has been overseeing preparations for next year’s summer Olympic games. Assuming he comes through hotel quarantine unscathed John will join us this Saturday to help hand out trophies and medals and if we’re lucky provide some insights into how things are looking for Tokyo.

We’ve got a huge morning of swimming this Saturday with the highlight being our inaugural Canada Bay Cup relay. Mayor Angelo Tsirekas will be in attendance to present the Cup. We’ll also be handing out perpetual trophies to last season’s winners. Our very generous Gold Sponsor Gladys Mallqui of Veeva Property Group will be on deck to hand out trophies. On top of that we’ve got the the Final of the Geoff Roper 200m Handicap Freestyle trophy race, a monster raffle, 50m Freestyle and 100m butterfly…
The order of the morning will be:
50m Freestyle
100m Butterfly
200m Freestyle including the Final of the Geoff Roper Handicap Trophy Race. (see below for a list of finalists)
The Canada Bay Cup (timing TBC but likely after Butterfly and before 200m Freestyle)
Canada Bay Cup Relay
The “Canada Bay Cup” – is our new relay in which residents of the various suburbs in the Canada Bay Local Government Area (LGA) will square off against each other to see which is the fastest suburb.
As noted above, our Club Patron Mayor Angelo Tsirekas will be attending to present the trophy to the winning team.
Please complete the form at the end of this link https://forms.gle/uV8MBsqXagQGVhT5A to nominate for the Canada Bay Cup – nominate the suburb you live in. Please complete the form for each person you are entering for.
Please nominate by COB Thursday to allow teams to be formed. The number of participants will be determined from the entries received. We’ll also field a relay team from out of LGA swimmers.
