Week 9: First Championship Race and 200M Medley Handicap Final!

50M Freestyle Championship

This week we have our first Championship Race and it’s the splash for cash – Freestyle over 50M.

A quick recap on the arrangements for Championship races:

The order of races will be (male then female):

  • Senior swimmers
  • 16 years and under
  • 14 years and under
  • 12 years and under
  • 10 years and under
  • 9 years and under
  • 8 years and under (30M Freestyle)
  • 6 years and under (20M Freestyle)
  • and finally the Open race for the fastest swimmers on the day

Competitors in the open events will be the eight fastest swimmers on the day, irrespective of age for the particular event.

When one or more of the eight qualifying swimmers does not swim (i.e too tired to swim or saving themselves for a later event), then the allocation of other swimmers to that event will be based on swim times starting from the next fastest swimmer.

Lanes in championship races are allocated on the basis of Club times with the fastest swimmer in lane 4, second fastest in lane 5, third fastest in lane 3 and so forth. When there are more than eight swimmers, the swimmers will be divided into heats according to their times with the fastest heat having the maximum number of swimmers, provided there is a minimum of three swimmers in any other heat.

Age groupings for Championships are determined by the member’s age at the 1st October 2020.

Week 6: Tom Brown Backstroke and Medley heats!

This week, after the 100m freestyle, we continue our handicap trophy heats with backstroke and the medley.

The Tom Brown trophy was named for Lynette’s grandfather Tom by her father who was the club handicapper in the 1970s. What an amazing connection the Brown family has had with the club and pool! It must be time for a Lynette Brown trophy…

Last year the Tom Brown handicap trophy was taken out by Jude Wilson, one of the many trophies Jude took home last season. Rumour has it that an engineer had to check the structural integrity of the second floor of the Wilson home because of the weight of all the trophies that the Wilson family took home last season…

Jude continues to improve and must be a good shot at back to back trophies. Can anyone beat him to this trophy this summer?

Ladies Social Night

Don’t forget the Ladies Social night is on tomorrow (Thursday). Register via TeamApp to indicate if you are going.

Got to love sunny Saturdays!

Our stretch of sunny Saturdays looks set to continue… Tell your friends how lovely it is as the pool on Saturday mornings and drag them along to join us for a free trial…

See you on Saturday!

Week 5: Heats for the World Famous George Wheaton BBB!

First up this week we have a 50m freestyle sprint. This will be closely followed by heats for one of the most highly-prized trophies of the season – the George Wheaton 50m “BBB” Handicap!

BBB is short for Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. It’s a unique event in which competitors race each other with different “B” strokes in the same race on handicap. So a swimmer in one lane may swim Butterfly, another Breaststroke and a third Backstroke!

Register Now for the BBB

If you haven’t already nominated your “B” stroke please do so asap using this google form.

Following the BBB, our long distance swim will be 400m Freestyle. To qualify for the 400m race, you must have a current 200m time less than 200 seconds (3m 20s).

There are the usual 200m, 4x30m and 4x20m Freestyle options for those of us who haven’t posted a 200 second qualifying time (or haven’t posted one in a while…).
