New Club Captains

Congratulations to Zoe and Matthew

Zoe Romaniuk and Matthew Svoboda are our Club Captains for 2022-2023. Congratulations to them both. It is fitting that they are our new club leaders given that they both scooped the pool as club champions last season.

We look forward to big things from both our new Captains this season.

Thanks very much to Rose Tunstall and Xiomara van Schaik and Tadhg Donnellan for their efforts as Captains last season.

DSC social nights coming up soon…

The men’s and ladies social nights are coming up in November so keep the following dates free:

Ladies Social Night Out – Thu 10 November, 7pm at the R&B Grillhouse

Men’s Social Night Out – Thu 17 November, 7pm at the R&B Grillhouse

Week 3 Program, New merchandise, Club Captains

It was great to see so many swimmers out and enjoying the warm and sunny conditions last Saturday. The junior swimmers are really demonstrating how another year of training and growing can help improve your times. For some of us older swimmers it was a demonstration of what another year can do to your times in the other direction. Such is life…

This week

Pretty soon things are going to get serious but for this week we have another week of events to help you get back in to the swim of things:

  • 50M Freestyle
  • 50M Backstroke
  • 200M Freestyle

As usual we’ll have 30M and 20M races for the kids and time trials for new swimmers plus 4 x 30M and 4 x 20M Freestyle longer races.

Merchandise

We have some new club merchandise for sale. We’ve got bucket hats, towels and mesh training bags. We’ll put these on display for anyone that is interested this weekend.

This new merchandise is from Agon Swimwear. They’ve also done a nice camo men’s and ladies costume design and we’ll take orders for those in the next couple of weeks.

Club Captains

We’ve received the following nominations for Club Captain’s. If you want to nominate to be Club Captain this season please see Adrian Bell early on Saturday morning. A vote will be taken with the raffle sale.

Child Safe Standards at swim club

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (the Royal Commission) shone a spotlight on thousands of cases where organisations in Australia failed to protect children in their care from abuse.

Drummoyne Swimming Club prides itself on providing an inclusive family friendly and safe environment for all swimmers. We are a little unusual compared with some other swimming clubs in that we have a high level of parent participation and involvement in club activities and administration. However, no organisation including us, is immune from the risk of nefarious activities.

The Child Safe Standards recommended by the Royal Commission provide a framework for making organisations safer for children. They have been accepted by the NSW government. Based on extensive research and consultation, the Standards provide tangible guidance for organisations to create cultures, adopt strategies and act to put the interests of children first, to keep them safe from harm. Swimming NSW has adopted and is implementing the Child Safe Standards and as a constituent organisation of Swimming NSW we need to comply and demonstrate that we are complying.

So, as a club we’ll be updating our policies and operational practices to ensure we provide a first rate child safe culture with values and practices that guide the attitudes and behaviour of all our volunteers and coaches. The following values will be at the heart of our approach:

  • The best interests of children and their protection from harm is paramount.
  • Child abuse is not tolerated and must not happen.
  • Children’s rights are understood and respected.
  • Concerns about child safety raised by children and their parents and carers are acted on.
  • Reporting abuse is not obstructed or prevented.

You’ll hear more about this over the season but anyone who is interested in contributing to this activity is welcome to help. If you wish to help out or if you have any questions about it, please feel free to contact Adrian Bell.

Welcome to season 2022-2023!

1 week until the season kicks off

After the winter hiatus, Saturday morning swim club racing starts again next Saturday the 8th of October.

It will be great to see all our returning swimmers and to welcome any new swimmers that join us.

Week 1

We will ease or way into the season with:

  • 50m Freestyle (handicap)
  • 50m Breastroke (handicap)
  • 200m Freestyle (handicap)

As usual we will have 30m and 20m races for those swimmers not yet up for 50m in freestyle or breastroke and 4 x 30m and 4 x 20m for swimmers who don’t want to do the 200m.

There will also be time trials for new and upgraded swimmers (e.g. those moving from 20m to 30m and 30m to 50m).

Season Calendar

The full season calendar is available on the website if you want to look ahead at the upcoming program.

Free Trial

Please let your friends know that they are more than welcome to come along for a free trial to see if they like the Drummoyne Swimming Club experience. They can then join up if they do.
