Club Captains for 2019-20 Announced

A big congratulations to Cara Parker and Joseph Colley on being elected Girls’ and Boys’ Club Captains for the 2019-20 season!

We thank you for volunteering your time to assist in running our Club on Saturday mornings and look forward to you both leading the Club to victory in the season’s Battle on the Bay Swimming Carnival!

Feedback on 20m/30m experiment

Last week we experimented with switching around the order of the 20m/30m races, to condense the activity and enjoyment for our younger swimmers.

Following your feedback on this trial format, we have decided to tweak it further this week, to reduce the long wait for other swimmers, while still shortening the overall experience for younger swimmers.

We are proposing to hold races in the following order this week, with the 4x30m and 4x20m races immediately following the 30m and 20m form stroke events:

  • 50m Freestyle
  • 30m and 20m Freestyle
  • 50m Form Stroke (BBB and Backstroke Time Trials)
  • 30m and 20m Backstroke
  • 4x30m and 4x20m Freestyle
  • 400m and 200m Freestyle

This format will allow the 30m and 20m swimmers to arrive and sign in shortly after 7.30am, while the 50m Freestyle is underway, and finish up before the 400m long distance event.

For safety reasons, the pool operator has requested that 20m swimmers do not dive in from the shallow end of the pool, due to the 1.1m depth.  We are currently reviewing this situation, but, for the moment, we require 20m swimmers to start in the pool. This restriction does not affect 30m and other swimmers diving in from the deep end.

Also the pool lifeguards have issued a friendly reminder that parents need to supervise their children in the toddler pool at all times.

Swim squads going strong!

Let’s get fit together!

Adult squads (Monday|Wednesday|Friday mornings) and Junior squads (Tuesday|Thursday mornings) are becoming very popular, with over 20 swimmers attending Junior squads.

Squad training sessions are included in your membership fees (only need to pay for pool entry), so we hope to see you all there!

Club Membership is DUE!

Club Membership and registrations are now open!

For detailed instructions on using the new Swimming NSW Swim Central system, please read “How do I purchase a membership product in Swim Central”.

We are aware that some people are having issues trying to link family on Swim Centre.  As the program is from Swimming NSW it might be best to contact them directly if you’re still having problems. Their contact details are (02) 9763 5833 or admin@nsw.swimming.org.au

Active Kids Vouchers

Drummoyne Swimming Club is registered to accept NSW Government Active Kids vouchers to pay for Club membership fees. However, the Swim Central system does not recognise these vouchers, so you will need to pay your membership fees directly then supply us with your voucher code for us to reimburse you. We are only allowed to reimburse you up to the value of your Club fees.

Please send your Active Kids voucher details to our Club Registrar, Michael Donnellan, at registrar@drummoyneswimclub.com.au. The Club will claim the vouchers on your behalf and reimburse you once the funds have been received.

Urgent Fee Payments!

We understand it has been a complex exercise to transition to the new Swimming NSW membership system and it would be greatly appreciated if members will could please join up and pay their fees as soon as possible so that the Club has operating funds for the season. After a short grace period we will be imposing penalties for late payments, which may include the removal of Club points!  If you get stuck or have any queries about memberships, please contact our Registrar, Michael Donnellan at registrar@drummoyneswimclub.com.au or mobile 0422 453 322.

Late comers miss out on race points!

It was fantastic to see so many new and returning members at Swim Club last week. To ensure that we finish all of our races by 10.30am its important that we start our races on time at 7.30am, which means being signed in by 7.15am.

To encourage everyone to arrive on time, tardy swimmers will be put into a ‘late comers’ race and will miss out on valuable race points!

‘Late comer’ races are similar to time trials, with all swimmers starting off ‘Go’ and swimmers earning a solitary point for their effort.

We look forward to seeing you all early on Saturday morning!

Junior Technicians Wanted!

Our Club operates with the valuable help of its volunteers, such as timekeepers, marshals and referees. One role that’s essential to the smooth running of the Club is that of the computer operators in our Club room, who sign-in members, schedule race starts and process the results that are published on our web site every week.

In recognition of the importance of this role, the Club has created a “Junior Technician” programme in which junior members (Year 6 and above) are trained up to run the computers on Saturday mornings, to ensure the smooth running of Club meets. Successful candidates are paid for their time on Saturday mornings and can still participate in races, between computer duties.

Key skills and competencies for the Junior Technician role are:

  • Proficient with computers and technology, particularly
    Microsoft Windows and Office applications
  • Attention to detail (we need our results to be accurate!)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (things will go wrong and you need to piece together different pieces of information to resolve them)
  • Ability to work calmly, independently and effectively under pressure
  • Excellent customer service approach and strong communication skills

If any juniors (Year 6 and above) would like to learn more about, and train up for, the Junior Technician role, please contact our President Tim Doolan on president@drummoyneswimclub.com.au or mobile 0418 969591.
