Week 13: 50 M Backstroke Championship and 400 M Medley

Well it was a lovely start to the 2023 calendar year last Saturday. Congratulations to Phil Hayward for fending off the kids to take out the George Russell 400M Handicap final. It’s good to see an adult keeping up on the handicap times, especially when the kids improve so rapidly from week to week.

This week things start to get a little bit tougher:

Our first race is the 50M Backstroke Championship. The fastest back strokers across all ages will go into the Open final and battle it out for the Championship title.

This will be followed by the 50M Freestyle handicap events.

As usual there will be 30M and 20M versions of both events for the young ones that prefer a shorted distance.

These shorter events will be followed by one of the great races the 400M Individual Medley. Good luck to all the swimmers who take this on!

There will also be shorted medley events.

Week 11: Santa Claus is coming to town!

This week is the last swim club meet before the holidays and to celebrate the end of another strange year we are having a Christmas BBQ breakfast and, if we’re lucky, hosting Santa Claus.

But before all that we have some swimming to do. This week’s races are:

  • 50M Freestyle (plus 30M and 20M races)
  • 200M Frestyle (plus the 4 x 30M and 4 x 20M races)

Christmas BBQ breakfast

While the races are progressing our resident Master Chef Dads and Mums will crank up the BBQ and cook up a feast of Christmas sausages (not reindeer sausages of course) plus vegetarian options.

The BBQ breakfast is free but we’ll be accepting gold coin donations or CC donations via the square tab with donations going to this season’s Laps 4 Life fund raising efforts in aid of REACHOUT.COM.

Season 22/23 Laps for Life Fund Raiser

Laps for Life will officially run in March but in case anyone wants to get ahead of the curve and start raising funds now our DSC team is now up and running and you can link up to it.

Next meet…

Our first swim club meet of 2023 will be 21 January 2023.

Check out the separate post for other key dates.

Ladies Honour Board reinstated!

For reasons unknown the original Ladies Honour Board was not re-installed after the last paint job on the wall next to the club room.

Dave Smith and James Simmons have now corrected this wrong and put the Ladies Honour Board back where it belongs along side the Men’s Honour Board so all passers by can see the list of past club champions and captains.
