A number of DSC swimmers battled the 3+ metre swell at Manly on Sunday morning to compete in the 40th instalment of the Cole Classic Ocean Swim.
Well done to junior swimmers for completing the 1km event: Jaxon Lewis, Noah Hale, Cohen van Loo, Oscar Hale and Skye Lewis. Skye swam an incredible 00: 24:25.
The kids dragged along Adam Lewis and Nathan Hale.
A big congratulations to the wonderful DSC ladies who completed the 5km event: Kristy Lewis, Hannah Svoboda, Melissa Lewis, Julie-Ann Ryan and Natalie Borozan.

As the north easterly blew out (and thankfully took the blue bottles with it) the Drummoyne Swimming Club lap burners blew in, to conquer the infamous Cole Classic.
It was a magical day on the Northern Beaches on Sunday as many of the club’s members, young and old, took on the challenge to swim from Shelly Beach to Manly Beach. Some reported swimming over stingrays and through schools of fish as they headed out through the ocean aquarium at Shelly. Water temp was refreshingly tepid, underwater visibility was so crystal clear you could see the ripples in the sand on the ocean floor. While there was a bit of dump at the beach landing end, all of our swimmers survived and crossed the blue finish line in great time.
Special mention must be made of Club Captain Rosie Tunstall, who smashed out an awesome 19:26 in the 1 km race. A true inspiration to us all.
Natalie Borozan, Kristy Lewis and Melissa Kerr took on the 5km mental and physical challenge, completing the event in mind boggling time. Annette Jamieson proved yet again what a legend she is, coming 4th overall in the 5km event.
Great to see the younger ocean swimmers join in. Noah Hale, Cohen Van Loo and Evie Kerr new to the 1km event, and Jaxon Lewis, now practically a seasoned pro.
It would be remiss not to mention the older club representatives. Our junior squad coach, Phil Hayward, always leading by example together with Nathan Hale and Davina Kite, competing in the 1km and 2km events respectively. The adult squad crew was ably represented by Craig Corcoran.
Congratulations to all of the competitors and we hope next year a bigger contingent from Drummoyne Swimming Club will join in the Cole Classic fun.

A few of our squad members have been rigorously training for what can only be described as the most epic ocean swim of the season. Taking place on 19th May 2019, the Bondi Beach to Watsons Bay South Head Roughwater ocean swim is a 10km marathon of a swim.
Our dedicated members have been practicing in the ocean on Sunday mornings. Currently we have four teams preparing for the swim that is sure to test even the most confident swimmers.
