While last Saturday morning started with a bit for a drizzle, keen 800m Freestyle swimmers braved the cold. We had three races of the 800m which was an absolutely fantastic turn out and an amazing effort from all the swimmers.
The rain soon cleared and it was time for our Funday races, starting with the Boogie Board race. Boards and lilos aplenty, followed by the lifeguards favourite, Over Under, Thong races and even the historic Mickey Mouse race. There were a few DQs, those that lost their Havaianas were among them but it was all in good fun!
Next we had the Funday classic, Family Relays. Double barrelled surnames became triple barrelled surnames and ‘siblings’ looked nothing like each other. Families came together with maximum effort and congratulations to the winners!
Next it was the race everyone wanted to win, The Geribo Cup. Named after legendary squad coach Norma Geribo, the Geribo Cup is ever changing but one thing is always a given, the trophy is made of chocolate. All teams had their eyes on the prize and surprisingly, famed team “Kellen Stinks”, was not there to stink up the pool. It was a tough couple of heats but in the end the prize was claimed by Matthew Ellis, Matt O’Connor, Mark Colley and Simon Howard.
Congratulations to all that swam! If you didn’t get to taste the smooth caramel of the Mars bar, there’s always next year!
