Drummoyne Pool to reopen from Monday 27 Sep 21

Outdoor public pools to reopen

Last Sunday Premier Berejiklian confirmed that public outdoor swimming pools will be allowed to reopen – to fully vaccinated people – from Monday the 27 September 2021.

Check out the pool website for details on how to get access to the pool

The good people at Belgravia Leisure are already planning for the 27th and will need to adopt and implement a strict NSW Health approved COVID-safe plan for the benefit of swimmers and the community at large. Please be mindful of others and follow the rules put in place and directions of the staff.

Keep an eye on the pool’s website for details about the rules and how to book – they should be available soon:

Racing season – still TBC

We eagerly await more information from the State Government about recommencement of community sports such as Swim Club.

At this stage we anticipate that community sport may be able to commence – for fully vaccinated adults plus kids – shortly after NSW hits the 70% double jab coverage rate.

As soon as we know when we will be allowed to start squads and racing we will let you know!

Inner West Council Pools – change of rules from Monday 27 September

All Inner West Council Pools will be open from Monday 27 September 2021 – Leichhardt, Ashfield and Dawn Fraser Baths.

Pools will be available for lap swimming, lane walking, recreational swimming and children’s swimming.

All visits will be limited to 1 hour.

No bookings are required however lap lane numbers and the 1 person per 4 square metre limits will apply.

You will need to check in and register on arrival, wear a face mask (unless exempt) and adhere to social distancing requirements as per NSW Health Guidelines.

Learn to swim, health and fitness facilities, squads, creche and all indoor areas remain closed.

It’s good to see swim club members (or their brave kids) hitting the local waterholes.

A little closer to home Skye Lewis and Georgia Romaniuk took the plunge and had a dip off the Drummoyne Sailing Club.

Latest on Drummoyne Swimming Centre Opening

Best estimate for pool opening

Last week Premier Gladys Berejiklian flagged that outdoor swimming pools may reopen once the adult population reached the 70% double vaccination coverage level. The latest estimates prepared by the ABC suggest that we will hit the 70% mark on Sunday the 10th of October – giving us a possible pool opening date of Monday the 11th of October 2021.

Although the pool may open for personal exercise at this time, we may need to wait a bit longer until community sport, such as Swim Club racing and organised squad training are allowed.

Stay tuned for further updates…

Pools to reopen at 70% double vaccination coverage

NSW Roadmap to freedom unveiled for the fully vaccinated

Happily, the NSW Government on Thursday announced that public swimming pools will be able to reopen to fully vaccinated folks the Monday after the state reaches 70% vaccination coverage for people over 16. The expectation is that this will occur in mid-October.

The Premier has made it abundantly clear that the new privileges will only be available to those who are fully vaccinated:

“I cannot stress enough how important it is for people to get vaccinated – if you have not had both doses of the vaccine by the time we hit the 70 per cent milestone, you will not be able to take advantage of these freedoms,”

Premier Berejiklian

Refer to the NSW Roadmap to freedom for more information.

So, if you wish to swim at the pool you will need to have had both vaccine doses.

Updated public health orders will guide us about the specifics and we will incorporate any relevant restrictions into our COVID-safe plan.

Dawn Fraser Pool Reopens!

Dawn Fraser Pool Now Open – book your swim

After a multi-million dollar make-over and a tweak to public health orders Dawn Fraser Pool is now open for swimming.

Advance bookings are essential and are available for one hour periods.

Bookings can be made up to 3 days in advance. You might need to stay up late to get a swim as new booking blocks open at midnight.

The two booking options are the 50m pool for lap swimming or the beach area for splashing around.

The one hour timeslot includes entry and exit so arrive on time as booking cannot be extended.

Swimming is not limited to those living in the Inner West Council area and is open to those living on the right side of the Iron Cove Bridge – as long as you live within 5km of the venue (or comply with any adjusted health orders if / when they change).

Spotted a DSC swimmer on TV?

Guess who and win a bottle of wine or a pair of goggles.

One of our regular swimmers has made their television acting debut with a role on a major advertising campaign… and is surely on a path down the red carpet to the Gold Logie stardom.

Have you seen the ad? Can you name the swimmer?

The first respondent to correctly name the swimmer will win a bottle of wine (for an adult) or a pair of goggles (for a squid).
