BATTLE ON THE BAY – 17 FEB. 2024

SAVE THE DATE – SATURDAY AFTERNOON 17 FEB

The 2024 edition of the Battle on the Bay is set for the afternoon of Saturday 17 February 2024.

We will be hosting the carnival at Drummoyne Swimming Centre.

Keep an eye out for more details early in the new year.

Thank you Effortless Swimming!

Effortless Swimming have kindly donated a Freestyle Stroke Correction Clinic to the club to use for fundraising.

After having success with adults of many different backgrounds and discovering the ‘conventional’ coaching methods weren’t working for everyone, Effortless Swimming founder Brenton began the organisation as a way to share his knowledge with people all over the world. They began sharing coaching methods on Youtube which
quickly grew into millions of views. Effortless Swimming is based in Victoria but hosts regular clinics in Sydney.

A number of our swimmers have completed the Freestyle Stroke Correction Clinic at Effortless Swimming over the years and the results speak for themselves.

Just recently Duncan Lyon, Gerry Tibbertsma and Phil Hayward completed the course. After putting the learnings into practice Duncan took almost 10 seconds off his 200m Freestyle time this weekend. If he keeps that up he’ll beat the 200 second mark and qualify to swim 400M races.

Well done Duncan!

As noted above, Effortless Swimming have provided a clinic voucher and we’ll raffle it off a little later in the season.

However, if you or someone you know would benefit from the clinic check out Effortless Swimming’s website and program. Book yourself in!

The clinic would make a great Christmas present!

Cole Classic 2024 – Manly Ocean Swim

For more than four decades, the Cole Classic has been a cornerstone event at the iconic Manly Beach. It’s one of the world’s most celebrated ocean swim events. And every year a number of Drummoyne Swimming Club swimmers make the trek to Manly to participate.

This summer the Cole Classic will be held on Sunday the 4th of February 2024. As usual the options are 1 km, 2 km and 5 km.

If you are thinking about doing an ocean swim this is the event for you.

Sydney Aquathon – Swim Run Event | 21 Jan 2024

We’ve got a lot of runners here at Drummoyne Swimming Club, as you’d expect given we have the bay run on our doorstep.

This January the Sydney Aquathon provides an opportunity to combine swimming and running. Sydney Aquathon has multiple events covering a range of distances:

  • Long Aqua: 1.5km Swim followed by an 8km Run
  • Standard Aqua: 1km Swim and a 5km Run
  • Short Aqua: 500m Swim paired with a 2.5km Run
  • Aqua Dash/Kids Aqua: A swift 200m Swim and a 1km Run

So, if you looking for something different this summer or something to help work off the Christmas cheer, lock the Sydney Aquathon in to your diary for Sunday the 21st of January.

The event starts at Dolls Point Beach in southern Sydney.

Dive into the flat waters off Dolls Point Beach for the swim leg, venturing south towards the scenic Sans Souci Point before making a triumphant return to shore. Once back on land, set off on a run that showcases the beauty of Dolls Point Beach foreshore, moving south towards the majestic Captain Cook Bridge and then looping back to the heart of the action at Depena Reserve.

Whether you’re taking on the challenge solo or as part of a relay team, the Sydney Aquathon promises a blend of competitive spirit, community warmth, and unforgettable views.

If you’re keen follow this link to register.
