This Week’s Racing – CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS!
Week 15 brings us an exciting lineup featuring our 400m Freestyle CHAMPIONSHIP along with the progression of two prestigious trophy races:
Race Order:
- CHAMPIONSHIP – 400m Freestyle
- Tom Williams 50m Freestyle (H’cap) – HEATS
- Bill Gallie 50m Breaststroke (H’cap) – FINAL
400M Championships
The 400M Freestyle Championship race is open to all swimmers from Seniors down to the U12 age group. There will of course be an Open final after the age group races. So, if you’re a likely finalist make sure you have something left in the tank…
We’ll have shorter races for the youngsters and the oldies who don’t wish to do 400M.
The Bill Gallie Trophy
The Bill Gallie Trophy is awarded to the winner of the 50m Breaststroke Handicap Event. The trophy was first awarded in the 1990-91 season.
As we approach the Final of the Bill Gallie 50m Breaststroke (H’cap), it’s fitting to remember the man behind this prestigious trophy. Bill Gallie was a cornerstone of Drummoyne Swimming Club, whose dedication and service to the club left an indelible mark on our community. His commitment to fostering excellence in breaststroke swimming and nurturing generations of swimmers made him a beloved figure at the club. The Bill Gallie Trophy stands as a testament to his legacy and the values he embodied – sportsmanship, dedication, and a love for competitive swimming.
Bill Gallie won the Australian Breaststroke Championship in 1925 and became a Life Member of the Club after acting as Hon Secretary and Race Referee for over 20 years from 1963.
Battle of the Bay – Saturday 7th March
Mark your calendars! The Battle of the Bay is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, 7th March at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre.
This historic inter-club rivalry has been a highlight of Sydney’s swimming calendar for over a decade, bringing together clubs from around the bay in a spirited day of competition and camaraderie. What began as a friendly challenge between neighbouring clubs has evolved into one of the most anticipated events on our racing calendar, showcasing swimmers of all ages and abilities in a true test of club spirit and individual excellence.
