Week 13 – Summer Racing Season

A Huge Thank You to Last Saturday’s Wet Weather Warriors!

What a way to kick off the year! A massive thank you to all the brave souls who turned up last Saturday for our first race meet after the Christmas break. Despite the wet conditions, you showed true Drummoyne spirit by diving in and giving it your all. Your dedication and enthusiasm, rain or shine, is what makes this club so special.

A special shout out to Alena Finn who took out the George Russell 400M Handicap Trophy and also to Alessandro Rapisarda who swum beautifully from Lane 1 and almost held on for the win.

This Week’s Events – Saturday Racing

We’ve got an exciting morning of racing lined up for Week 13:

Event 1: 50M Backstroke Championship Races

This week we’re crowning our backstroke champions! We’ll run heats for all junior age groups, followed by senior races, before bringing our fastest swimmers together for an Open Final. Who will claim the title of Drummoyne’s fastest backstroker? Don’t miss this exciting showdown!

Event 2: 50M Freestyle Sprint (with 30M and 20M Junior Races)

Speed is the name of the game in our second event. Junior swimmers will tackle the 30M and 20M distances, while our older swimmers will battle it out over the full 50M sprint. Get ready to see some lightning-fast times!

Event 3: 400M Medley

Our final event of the morning is the ultimate test of stamina and skill. The 400M Medley will push every swimmer to their limits, requiring mastery of all four strokes. This is where champions are made! 4 x 30M and 4 x 20M races will be held after the 400M races.

Important: Membership Registration Required

If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you are formally registered as a Drummoyne Swimming Club member through Swimming Australia’s SwimCentral website. This is crucial for two important reasons:

  1. Club Finances: Your membership fees help us maintain our facilities, equipment, and racing programs
  2. Insurance Coverage: All swimmers must be registered members to be covered by our insurance scheme

Special Note for Trial Members: If you originally registered using SwimCentral’s Free Trial option, you must now convert your membership to a paid membership to continue racing with us.

Don’t delay – get registered today!

Well done to our Bondi to Bronte Swimmers

A huge congratulations to the Drummoyne swimmers who braved some tough conditions on Sunday to complete the Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim.

Jaxon Lewis, Mary Hartley, Suzie Aitken, Kristy Lewis, Natalie Borozan, Craig Corcoran and friend.

Well done to you all!

You might notice that Craig is wearing a Cole Classic Tee Shirt in this photo – there are still tickets available for that event but they won’t last. In fact the 5km event has sold out, but there are still 1km and 2km tickets left.

The event is scheduled for the 1st of February 2026.

CHAMPIONSHIP RACES

This week we start our Championship scratch race races – races with no handicaps just a flat out battle to see who is the fastest in each age group and then across the whole club.

We’re starting Championship racing with the ultimate splash and dash the 50M freestyle event.

The male club record is held by William Taylor and currently sits at 26.70 seconds. Can Will better his own time or will there be a challenger to his crown?

The women’s club record for 50M is held by Lily Borozan at 30.56. Is it under threat this summer?

Hopefully everyone saw the TeamApp news post about Championship rules but as a reminder… swimmers 1) need to have already raced in 3 meets to swim in Championship races and you need to be a club member to be eligible for championship trophies, and 2) there are specific races for different age groups.

If you need help with registering come and see club officials who are happy to help.

The specific age groups and distances are as follows so please make sure that you enter the right distance via TeamApp ahead of Saturday:
