Cole Classic Manly Ocean Swim

A big congratulations to the Drummoyne swimmers who braved the swell at Manly last weekend to compete in the Cole Classic Ocean Swim.

Pictured below are Jaxon Lewis, Noah Hale, Oscar Hale, Will Bolton, Skye Lewis and Dave Bolton (as well as Adam Lewis’ hand – Adam clearly has a future as a hand model!) This crew were joined by Adrian Bell, Phil Hayward, Michael Hayward, Hannah Hurst, Rosie Tunstall and the Cordaro clan plus Craig Corcoran who swam the 2km event – great work Craig.

A special mention to our two intrepid swimmers Melissa Kerr and Kristy Lewis who dug deep to compete in the 5km swim. The 5km swim goes from Shelley Beach up to Freshwater Beach and the back to South Steyne Beach. Well done Mel and Kristy!

Battle on the Bay entries

The individual entries for the 2024 Battle On The Bay on Saturday 17th February 2024, including seed times, are available here:

Please review and check the entries as soon as possible so that we can finalise them this week. Also, please double-check the entries for your friends who may not see or read this email.

Where swimmers do not have a current time for one of the events they have entered, a time of 9.59.99 has been entered.  If you have an estimated time, please advise.

If you have not yet entered and wish to do so asap – by Saturday the 10th of February at the latest.

Please register you and your family members on Team App under the Battle on the Bay Event on 17th February 2024 (sign in the same way as Saturday morning meets and choose the races you wish to swim in):

The relay team entries will be published once the individual entries have been finalised, based on the fastest swimmers for each age group. We will assume that everyone who has a 50m Freestyle time will be available for selection in the relays, but if you have to leave the Carnival early or do not wish to participate in a relay team, please advise.

However, if you enter a race but do not swim (DNS) on the day, you will LOSE points for the Club!

So, if you have to leave the Carnival early or expect to arrive late, it will be better for our Club result if you don’t enter yourself into any races that you may miss.

Entry Fees

The entry fee for the Carnival is $7 per swimmer.  You will also need to pay pool entry fees on the day.

If you haven’t yet paid your Carnival fee, please click here to pay:

Volunteers

To run the Carnival efficiently we are seeking volunteers to help out with timekeeping, marshaling and other roles.  Please volunteer your services if you are able to assist on the day.

History of the Battle on the Bay

The Battle on the Bay Swimming Carnival was started by Drummoyne Swimming Club in 2010 as a fun way of bringing together local clubs in the bay area.  Some history on the Carnival and previous results can be found on our web site here:

https://drummoyneswimclub.com.au/battle-on-the-bay-swimming-carnival/

The carnival is a great social meet for our members to compete against other swimmers in the local area.  Wear your Club colours and cheer loudly for our team!  The highlight of the Carnival is always the relay events at the end, culminating with the 10x50m relay in which the fastest ten swimmers from each club battle it out for supremacy in the pool!

Awards are given to the fastest male and female swimmers in each age group and the Battle on the Bay Trophy will be presented to the fastest Club on the Bay!

Week 14: Everyone’s favourite event… the 100M Butterfly Championship!

It was magnificent to see a couple of new club records set in the 400 Individual Medley last week. Congratulations to Hayden Howard and Elizabeth Allen for setting new benchmarks in their age groups.

This week we have another challenging meet. The 100M Butterfly Championship races will no doubt be the highlight.

Week 13: Backstroke Championship and 400M Medley

This week we get back in to the swing of championship races with the 50M Backstroke race.

We’ve also got one of the toughest races on the calendar the 400M Individual Medley handicap event.

Some 10+ years ago we used to swim 400M Individual Medley championship races. Unsurprisingly, the number of participants in those races was not huge so the championship event was dropped from the calendar – leaving just the handicap event.

We do however still have club records for the 400M Medley and occasionally a brave soul or two decide they want to have a crack at the record for their age group. If you want to have a go at a 400M Medley record this weekend please contact Duncan ahead of Saturday via racesecretary@drummoyneswimclub.com.au.
