New Squad Program

We are excited to announce that we will be starting a new squad program this season that provides quality coaching for adults and children.

The program will cater for beginners, seeking to gain swimming confidence, through to advanced swimmers looking to hone their racing technique and fitness levels.

Details of the weekly squad program are available here. The Tuesday and Thursday squads will start on 16th October when school recommences.  The Adult Fit squads on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are available now in lanes 1 and 2 at Drummoyne Pool.

We are currently advertising for a Bronze Level Swimming Coach with
adult and junior experience.  If you know of anyone who may be interested, please contact Annette Jamieson on annette_jamieson@hotmail.com or mobile 0417 269593.

New Life Members

We are pleased to announce that Matt O’Connor and David Parker were nominated for Life Membership at the recent AGM.

Matt O’Connor joined the Club in 2004, when he used to bring his daughter Libby along to race. He quickly became involved in running meets, working tirelessly with James Simmons in the early days, to work out the handicaps by hand for over 50 races per meet! Matt used his fast mental arithmetic to calculate the handicaps and his logistics skills to organise the heats like clockwork. Matt has a unique booming voice to marshal swimmers with, which leaves no one with an excuse for missing a race! We all love to see and hear Matt in action and are fortunate to have such a character, who resonates with so well with our juniors.

In the past four years Matt has also operated as an official and Club Captain at North Curl Curl Surf Life Saving Club, often racing straight from Swim Club to the surf. Matt has also coached the Colts and school rugby teams. It is clear that he puts everything into each community he is involved with and we are fortunate to have him as a member.

David Parker has been involved with the Club for over 10 years. During this time David has consistently contributed to the Club at all levels. He has been a valuable contributor on the Committee, particularly with governance and compliance, utilising his background in law. His volunteering efforts go largely unnoticed each Saturday morning, as he helps prepare every meet, to ensure it runs smoothly on pool deck. David avoids the limelight and is the quiet achiever, who the club continually counts on, always putting the interests of the Club first. David’s wife Nicola and three children have also been regular Club contributors and have achieved many swimming successes over the years.

Ladies Night – 27 Oct

To balance out the intensive training and competitive racing, we’re organising our first social event of the year – a Ladies Night on Saturday 27th October 2018 at 7.30pm.

The event is open to all female Club Members over 18 and is self-funded.  It’s a great chance for new members to introduce themselves and get to know other members of the Club.

Further details for the evening will be finalised shortly.  If you’re interested in attending, please put the date in your calendar and register your interest with Annette Jamieson on Annette_jamieson@hotmail.com or Sophie O’Brien on sophieobrien57@gmail.com.
