Week 15 brings us an exciting lineup featuring our 400m Freestyle CHAMPIONSHIP along with the progression of two prestigious trophy races:
Race Order:
The 400M Freestyle Championship race is open to all swimmers from Seniors down to the U12 age group. There will of course be an Open final after the age group races. So, if you’re a likely finalist make sure you have something left in the tank…
We’ll have shorter races for the youngsters and the oldies who don’t wish to do 400M.
The Bill Gallie Trophy is awarded to the winner of the 50m Breaststroke Handicap Event. The trophy was first awarded in the 1990-91 season.
As we approach the Final of the Bill Gallie 50m Breaststroke (H’cap), it’s fitting to remember the man behind this prestigious trophy. Bill Gallie was a cornerstone of Drummoyne Swimming Club, whose dedication and service to the club left an indelible mark on our community. His commitment to fostering excellence in breaststroke swimming and nurturing generations of swimmers made him a beloved figure at the club. The Bill Gallie Trophy stands as a testament to his legacy and the values he embodied – sportsmanship, dedication, and a love for competitive swimming.
Bill Gallie won the Australian Breaststroke Championship in 1925 and became a Life Member of the Club after acting as Hon Secretary and Race Referee for over 20 years from 1963.

Race Schedule 100M Butterfly Championship
We kick off the day with our prestigious 100M Butterfly Championship race. This is a highlight event of the season where our swimmers will showcase their technique, power, and endurance.
The butterfly is often called the most challenging stroke, and watching our competitors tackle this distance is always inspiring. Good luck to all participants!

Molly Wark and Les Henry U/10 Series – Our youngest competitors continue their journey in this important developmental series U/10 Series – named in honour of club legends, this series continues to build skill and confidence in our junior swimmers.
35 and Over Series – Our masters swimmers demonstrate that competitive swimming is truly a lifelong sport The 100M Freestyle is a true test of speed and stamina. We’re looking forward to seeing personal bests and some close finishes across all these categories!
200M Freestyle – Distance Event

Swimmers will need to pace themselves carefully while maintaining strong technique throughout. This is always an exciting event to watch as competitors dig deep in those final laps!

The results for Saturday 24 January 2026, including the 50m Backstroke Championships, have been published here.
The pool was a bakery of backstrokers — lots of golden loaves.
Handicap racing delivered the usual thrills: slow-starters beasting the clock, fasties trying not to swallow water while chasing the field. Here are the spicy bits:
Bottom line: lots of close tussles remain. With the season running through to 21 March (the big 800m Championship + Relay Fun Day), there’s plenty of handicapped glory and points left to wrestle for — any of those leaders can be upset on a good day or if someone new turns up with turbo flippers.
We had a handful of VOIDs and DNS marks (timekeeper gremlins and an absent lane or two). When the stopwatch spat out nonsense, the referee’s placings were used for points — extra thanks to Duncan for wrangling the chaos while David Parker mailed snow snaps from Japan.
The hardy (or foolish) tackled the 4x100m Medley handicap — Emilie’s time trial stole the headlines and showed us what she’s capable of. Several heats had VOID entries due to timing snafus, but the spirit was top shelf. Reminder: the Geribo Cup and Family relays are coming at season’s end — start lining up choccy‑cup teams and family alliances now.
Big congrats to everyone who raced — from tiny tots learning backstroke to club stalwarts keeping the timing boards honest. Records fall, PBs happen, and the handicap system kept things deliciously unpredictable. See you next Saturday — bring sunscreen (UV’s extreme), good humour and maybe a spare timer or two.

What a way to kick off the year! A massive thank you to all the brave souls who turned up last Saturday for our first race meet after the Christmas break. Despite the wet conditions, you showed true Drummoyne spirit by diving in and giving it your all. Your dedication and enthusiasm, rain or shine, is what makes this club so special.
A special shout out to Alena Finn who took out the George Russell 400M Handicap Trophy and also to Alessandro Rapisarda who swum beautifully from Lane 1 and almost held on for the win.

We’ve got an exciting morning of racing lined up for Week 13:
Event 1: 50M Backstroke Championship Races
This week we’re crowning our backstroke champions! We’ll run heats for all junior age groups, followed by senior races, before bringing our fastest swimmers together for an Open Final. Who will claim the title of Drummoyne’s fastest backstroker? Don’t miss this exciting showdown!
Event 2: 50M Freestyle Sprint (with 30M and 20M Junior Races)
Speed is the name of the game in our second event. Junior swimmers will tackle the 30M and 20M distances, while our older swimmers will battle it out over the full 50M sprint. Get ready to see some lightning-fast times!
Event 3: 400M Medley
Our final event of the morning is the ultimate test of stamina and skill. The 400M Medley will push every swimmer to their limits, requiring mastery of all four strokes. This is where champions are made! 4 x 30M and 4 x 20M races will be held after the 400M races.
If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you are formally registered as a Drummoyne Swimming Club member through Swimming Australia’s SwimCentral website. This is crucial for two important reasons:

The results for Saturday 17 January 2026, including Week 3 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.
Nice turnout of the regulars and plenty of new faces having a go. A few stalwarts were away (Phil, Gerry and Dave — missed you legends), so big thanks to Paul Martin who stepped in as Race Ref and to William Taylor, Tom & Emma Pacey for the starting duties. The pool served up some proper racing — some surprise delights, a sibling scrap, a heroic 400m final and more than a few “did they really just do that?” moments.
There are a few proper tight ladders in the season-long point-score — handy to know who’s breathing down whose neck:
Top work everyone — from the tiniest 20m dashers to the long‑distance warriors. If you swam, helped, started, timed or just yelled support from the fence: good onya. Keep training, keep laughing, and we’ll see you next Saturday morning — same pool, same chaos, same beautiful Drummoyne vibes.
