George Russell 400m Freestyle Final, Bill Gallie 50m Breaststroke Heats and 100m Freestyle

2nd week back after the break

Things looked a little dicey last Saturday after lightning struck close by the pool at 6:45. But, it was all plain sailing from there and it turned out to be a nice, but understandably quiet, morning. This Saturday the weather is looking fine. So, if you indulged too much over the festive season, head down to the pool to race off some of that Christmas cheer…

This week we have:

George Russell 400m Freestyle Handicap Final

The finalists for this week’s George Russell 400m Freestyle (Handicap) race are:

IDName
1113Jaxon LEWIS
1598Liz MANISCALCO
1457Toby HANSEN

To increase the field, we’ll likely include second and/or third place finishers from the heats as additional swimmers in the final.

Junior Coaching Changes!

Thanks Maddie

After three and a half years coaching our Junior Squads with Lynette and Phil, Maddie Tilyard is leaving us.

Thanks very much Maddie for all your efforts to help our squids improve. You have been a great support to the Club and will be sorely missed.

Maddie is commencing her professional career as a nurse at Royal North Shore Private. I’m sure she’ll be kept busy!

Welcome Lauren

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Lauren Lyon to the coaching ranks. Lauren was a swim club regular as a kid. She went on to take up rowing competitively and has been coaching with Carlile Swimming Centres for the last few years. Lauren is a ready made replacement for Maddie. Please make her feel welcome.

Reminder about Junior Squads

Junior squads run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 in Lanes 1 and 2 under the watchful eye of Lynette Brown and Phil Hayward. Lynette and Phil are professionally supported by Cara Parker and now Lauren Lyon.

Junior squads are free to members and open to all. Parents are very welcome to come along and participate too.

Interested in coaching?

We are always looking to train up and coming coaches. So, if any older juniors are interested please reach out to Phil Hayward to learn more about coach training and coaching opportunities.

Happy New Year! Welcome Back!

We are back on as planned…

Happy New Year to all swimmers and your families. We trust that you had a restful break and hope that you weren’t too impacted by COVID-19.

Despite the increasing case numbers, the health advice about outdoor swimming pools and community sport remains the same. This being the case, we will recommence swimming as planned.

Please refer to the post about our COVID-19 Safety Plan and rules.

This week

This week we ease our way back into the pool with:

  • 50m Freestyle
  • 100m Butterfly (well maybe this won’t be soooo easy…)
  • 200m Freestyle

There may be people still away on holidays. So, if you are chasing points, this Saturday might be your chance to catch-up or get ahead!

2nd half of the season

If all goes to plan, we will have an exciting 2nd half of the season, with:

  • The Mayor’s Canada Bay Cup Relay
  • Canada Bay Club School of Origin Relay
  • Battle on the Bay, hosted by us on 5 March 2022

Squads have recommenced

Adult and Junior Squads have recommenced and you should all feel free to come down to get some training in. They are free. Junior squads feature great coaching from Lynette, Phil and Cara. It would be especially great to see a few more adults in the squads early in the week.

For a prize: Duncan and Adrian were the fastest two swimmers in an adult squad last week. How many swimmers were present? First junior swimmer to guess correctly wins a Chupa Chup prize.

COVID-19 and Swim Club

We’re back as planned at this stage

As you are all aware, community case numbers of COVID-19 have increased significantly since Christmas. However the health advice has remained the same in relation to outdoor swimming pools and outdoor recreation. This being the case, we plan to continue with normal Swim Club activities unless the health advice changes.

However, please do follow COVID-19 safe practices while at Swim Club activities.

The Club’s COVID-19 safety plan can be found here and on TeamApp under the documents section.

The key take-outs from the plan:

  • Maintain social distancing between family groups in the stands
  • Entry to the club room is restricted to officials and communication is only via the window only. No congregating around the entrance to the room please.
  • Marshalling for upcoming races will be in the first few rows of the stands – not behind the blocks.
  • Make use of the hand sanitiser stations situated at both ends of the pool before and after handling the timers.

Please don’t come to swimming if you are sick or if you are required to self-isolate.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Happy Holidays!

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year!

On behalf of the Swim Club committee we hope you all have a festive and restful holiday season!

It was great to see so many happy faces at the pre-Christmas meet and good to see Santa in fine form.

Thanks very much to those who helped with the BBQ breakfast in particular Shellee Ossen, Dave Smith and Michael Pegum in addition to Narelle Horton for arranging much of the food!

We look forward to seeing everyone again in the new year!
