Saturday Racing News: The World-Famous George Wheaton “BBB” is Back!

Get ready for one of the absolute highlights of the Drummoyne Swimming Club calendar this Saturday morning! We are hosting the world-famous George Wheaton “BBB” heats, our highly anticipated handicap event where swimmers get to choose their favourite “B” stroke and go head-to-head. Because it is a handicap race, anyone has a chance to take out the win, making for some of the most exciting finishes of the season!

To help families and our younger swimmers plan their morning, we are trialing a brand-new race order this week so that kids and their families can get away earlier if they wish. We will be running our shortest freestyle distance events first before moving into the longer distance events.

This Week’s Revised Race Order

  1. Freestyle Sprints: 50M, 30M, and 20M events (First up!)
  2. The George Wheaton “BBB” Heats: (Choose your B-stroke – see details below!). Then 30M and 20M Backstroke.
  3. Distance Events: 4 x 20M, 4 x 30M, 200M, and the 400M freestyle race

Please note: To qualify for the 400M race, you must have a current 200M time of less than 200 seconds (3m 20s). If you haven’t posted that qualifying mark yet, the 200M, 4 x 30M, or 4 x 20M options are perfect for you!

Mid-Week Squad Training

  • Adults Squads: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings
  • Junior Squads: Tuesday and Thursday mornings

See you all poolside this Saturday for a massive morning of racing!

How to register your preferred stroke for the BBB

To submit your chosen B-stroke (Breaststroke, Backstroke, or Butterfly) for the George Wheaton BBB handicap heats, you need to log into your swimming portal via the Drummoyne Swimming Club Team App.

When submitting your weekly race entries, follow these steps to lock in your selection:

  1. Open Team App and navigate to this Saturday’s event page.
  2. RSVP “Going” to the meet.
  3. Select your preferred “B” stroke from the available nomination options.

Make sure you complete your entry before the weekly cutoff so our marshalling and handicapping teams can seed the heats smoothly.

Note: To ensure fair handicapping, you must choose a stroke for which you have already completed a 50m time trial at the club this season. If you are a brand-new swimmer and haven’t set a time for a particular stroke yet, choose one you have already logged. [1]

If you run into any technical issues or have questions about how the handicap system works pop into the club room and ask of our friendly technicians.
