Results Week 2

The results for Saturday 17 October 2026 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool — a shower or two couldn’t dampen our spirits.

What a ripper second week of the season! The deck was buzzing with new faces and the usual suspects back from holidays, the raffle dished out a few lucky winners and the kids collected their snazzy new Club shirts after signing up to Swim Central. Big welcome to Joseph Storey (our Kiwi triathlete), and well done to first-timers Zoe Thomas and Halle Smith — you both survived your first Saturday chaos and then some.

Big cheers & highlights

  • Cara Thompson continues to boss the Under-10 girls point score — 19 points already. The little legend scooped a swag of placings on the day and looks set to make the rest of the field work for it.
  • Under-10 boys is a two-horse thriller: Edward Pacey sits top with 20 points and Oscar Sullivan is breathing down his neck on 18 — expect fireworks when they square off again.
  • Under-8 boys: Max Thompson (14) and Arthur Pacey (13) are trading blows — one meet and this rivalry is already deliciously tight.
  • Under-8 girls: Anna Rapisarda (9) just edges Georgina Aitken (8). Two keen little swimmers — both improving every week.
  • Seniors: William Taylor is leading the senior men’s point score early with 9 points; Joseph Storey (the new bloke) and Adam Christodoulou are right in the mix on 8 apiece. Plenty of racing left for bragging rights.

Standouts in the water

  • Cara Thompson — multiple top placings across her races and continuing to pile on points for the Under-10 girls. A season opener to be proud of.
  • Archie Sullivan — solid performances across the sprints and middle distances; leads Under-12 boys on 20 points. Consistency wins trophies in this club.
  • Lincoln van Loo and Casper Crothers — neck-and-neck in the Under-16s with Lincoln just ahead on 20 and Casper on 18. Those long frees are their playgrounds.
  • Christian Taylor made a splash returning from the USA — not chasing his old elite PBs but still plenty quick and a real threat in the sprints. Lovely to have him back training with mates (and embarrassing rivals) Daniel Oliver and William Taylor.
  • Zoe Thomas and Halle Smith — impressive first swims. Zoe turned in tidy times in her time-trials, and Halle’s gutsy swims showed she’ll be collecting PBs soon.
  • Joseph Storey — wow, raw speed on show (you could see the triathlon training), but a cheeky DQ in the 400m for going early — lessons learned and a great platform to build from.

Family, school and rivalry gossip (the good kind)

  • Lots of family squads out there: the Taylors (Christian, William, Lukas) keep giving each other grief between the lanes; sibling-scraps always make the races more fun.
  • Patricia and Clare Douglas both got stuck in — lovely to see parent-child pairs paddling together. Patricia’s getting back into the groove and Clare put in solid swims.
  • Old‑school rivalries simmer on: Duncan, Phil and Gerry continue their long-running banter — Duncan’s declared mission to “beat Gerry and Phil” remains ongoing. On today’s form it’s still anybody’s game (and very entertaining for the rest of us).
  • School-affiliated notes: plenty of Russell Lea and Drummoyne Public kids making their mark — good to see local schools represented in the friendly chaos.

The day’s quirks (timing gremlins & DNS)

  • We had a handful of DNS/DNFs and a couple of “no times recorded” moments — Skye Lewis, Charlotte Baidjurak and others fell victim to timing gremlins or missed starts. Nothing a screwdriver and a fresh stopwatch can’t fix next Saturday.
  • Joseph’s early start in the 400m resulted in a DQ — gutting on the day but an absolute comedy story for the clubhouse later. He’s already forgiven; the racetrack is kinder next week.

Point-score picture and what to watch

The point-score tables are already shaping some tasty season-long battles. A few things to keep an eye on:

  • Under-10 boys and girls competitions are tight — with many rounds to come, small swings will decide trophies. Edward and Oscar in the boys, Cara and Christina in the girls, are all well-placed.
  • Under-8 tussles (Max vs Arthur; Anna vs Georgina) are entertainment gold — bring popcorn (metaphorically) and a stopwatch.
  • Seniors: with William, Joseph and Adam all close early, expect the veteran-hunts‑youngster storylines to develop as more meets roll around.

Final notes and encouragement

If you raced — nice work. If you helped on the deck — even better. If you cheered, handed out ribbons, ran the raffle or fixed a timing cable between sips of coffee — you’re the reason this club hums. Keep turning up, keep chasing silly personal goals (we love them — shout out to Patricia’s “Swim” and Phil’s “Coffee with fast friends”), and keep bringing the weather‑proof smiles.

See you next Saturday — same silly time, same lovely pool. Bring your sunscreen, your sense of humour and anyone who thinks they can beat the Taylors (we dare them).
