The results for Saturday 10 October 2026 have been published here.
It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool — a pleasant partly cloudy morning.
Welcome back to the 2026–27 season, legends! Saturday was our season opener and the pool was buzzing with old hands, new faces and the usual mid-morning banter that doubles as warm‑ups. Special shoutouts to our newest members Clara Angove, Kathleen Cowmey, Kiri Moran, Mason Nader, Joseph Storey and Ryan Voulgaris — great to have you onboard. Joseph flew in from Auckland and promptly announced himself with a ripping 27.61s 50m freestyle time trial. Good on ya, mate. And congrats to Alex Perkins for winning the raffle (and to the first 50 kids who walked away looking sharper in their free DASC shirts).
Top moments & personal wins
- Joseph Storey — instant legend status: 27.61s in the 50m TT and a tidy 2:25.76 in the 200m TT. If you’re wondering who to watch this season, write his name down.
- Edward Pacey (U10) and Archie Sullivan (U12) both had cracking days — each top of their age groups on 11 points already. Archie’s showing in the 200m (3:20.42) sets an early benchmark.
- Cara Thompson (U10 female) stormed out as the early leader with 10 points across her three races — PBs and big smiles all round.
- Newcomer Clara Angove and Kathleen Cowmey made solid debuts across time trials — welcome and nicely done.
- Lincoln van Loo grabbed an early lead in Under‑16 boys with 10 points — a consistent start that other youngsters will be chasing.
- Senior tussles: Elizabeth Allan and Jenny Gaskin are sitting pretty on 7 points apiece in the Senior Women standings — early days but already a two‑way rivalry brewing.
Handicap point score battles worth watching
Because every week is a fresh scrap at DASC, the first meet already gave us a bunch of mini‑rivalries to follow:
- Under 10 Boys — Edward Pacey: 11 points. He’s bullied the scoreboard already; Oscar Sullivan is chasing on 8. Expect close finishes when handicaps get shuffled.
- Under 12 Boys — Archie Sullivan out front on 11. Michael Tripolitsiotis, Harry Finn and the rest will be looking to nibble at that lead — plenty of season left.
- Under 14 Girls — Alena Finn and Skye Lewis tied on 7 points. Classic Skye vs Alena mix of speed and grit; if either drops a big result at the medleys it’ll swing fast.
- Seniors Men — Jaxon Lewis leads early with 6 points. Adam C. and Thomas Pearson are close enough to make it interesting — a great bunch to keep an eye on for the championship races later in the season.
Bottom line: it’s early, the handicaps will move and most of these leaders can still be caught — so no sitting on laurels, folks.
Family & school storylines
- The Pacey clan — Arthur, Edward, Jessica and Christina — made a weekend of it and left their mark across U8, U10 and U12 events. Arthur already tops U8 boys with 8 points; family bragging rights firmly in play.
- The Lewis crew (Adam, Jaxon, Skye) are flexing: Jaxon chasing that sub‑30 50m goal and Skye already showing the form that won her last season’s Under‑14 honours.
- Allan twins and family (Elizabeth leading the seniors ladies early) — a familiar and organised pack that always stamps their authority.
- Lots of Russell Lea, Rosebank and Drummoyne school kids on deck — great to see the local schools mixing into our friendly chaos. Reminder: they swim for the Club at these meets, not the school.
Timing gremlins & fair dinkum moments
- We had a few DNS/DQ/VOIDs and some races marked VOID where no timekeeper was on the lane (thanks school holidays for thinning the volunteer ranks). Aodhan’s 200m place was recorded by the referee as VOID — nothing sinister, just the paperwork of grassroots sport. David Parker and Gerry Tibbertsma did a sterling job keeping equipment and starts moving despite a few cobwebs to blow off.
- Several swimmers had “no times recorded” for some events (lookin’ at a few of you who forgot to sign in or were distracted by the raffle). If that was you, chalk it up to first‑meet fuzziness and come back even sharper next week.
Little legends & big grins
Youngsters stole a fair bit of the show. Max and Cara Thompson both chased PBs and were rewarded by the crowd’s cheer, while the pocket‑rocket Rex Wilson and determined Jude Wilson showed the speed and endurance that’ll make the under‑14 and under‑16 races a hoot this season.
Vets & rivals — stirring the pot
Phil Hayward (ever the competitor) is already sharpening his “beat Rosie Tunstall again” quip; Duncan Lyon shrugged off the cobwebs and will be looking to climb the seniors table in the next few meets. Gerry Tibbertsma’s season goal is an 800 in under 19 minutes — lofty, but you can bet he’ll be back and improving each week.
What this means going forward
- This was Week 1 points in the handicap series — there are plenty more meets and points on offer. Early leaders have momentum but not immunity; a handful of 4‑point weeks from a win can swing any ladder.
- Keep an eye on trophy weeks coming up (and the championship events later in the season). The next few meets will re‑shape handicaps and give the early leaders a target on their back.
- New members and debutants: jump in, race often and make sure you sign in and get a timekeeper on your lane. The timing gremlins bite the unprepared.
All in all: a glorious season opener. Amazing to see such a mix of ages, schools and families duking it out, and the vibe was classic DASC — encouraging, competitive and a bit cheeky. See you next Saturday — bring your best start, your best cheer and, if you can, a volunteer for lane‑timing so we don’t give the gremlins any more excuses!
Keep swimming, keep smiling — and remember: PBs are delicious, but jelly‑beans from the Geribo Cup are tastier still (we’ll remind you when the relays come around).
