Results Week 19

The results for Saturday 8 March 2025, including the 4x50m Individual Medley Championships, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where the sun was a bit shy, ducking behind clouds, but thankfully sparing us from any serious soakings. A touch of wind tried to whip up the waves, but nothing could dampen the spirits of our swimmers, young and old, as they plunged into this weekend’s aquatic adventure.

Cracking Records and Reigning Champions

Young Harry Thompson was the talk of the pool on Saturday morning, smashing Denver Pelly’s under-10 record with an astonishing 4x50m Individual Medley time of 3:15.98. Denver, who’s now dabbling in university life, might have to brush up his skills to reclaim this title!

Meanwhile, Hannah Aitken dominated the Fred Congdon 50m Butterfly, gliding past her rivals with the grace of a training dolphin. Granny Douglas’s pride was absolutely beaming from the bleachers!

Showdowns and Sibling Rivalries

The inter-family tussle was alive and well. In the Under 8 Boys 4 x 30m Medley, Alessandro Rapisarda and his cousin Henry Godden fiercely swapped positions, with Alessandro finally finishing first. The Godden household, however, won’t be any less proud of Henry’s impressive runner-up performance.

Handicap Points Galore!

Thomas Pacey remains untouchable atop the Senior Men’s Handicap leaderboard, while Jenny Gaskin squeezed ahead in the women’s division with a mere point lead. Stay tuned, folks, it’s tight!

In the younger circuit, it’s a barn-burner as Elizabeth Allan continues her commanding lead in the Under 16 Girls, while the Under 10 boys see Harry Finn carving through like a speedboat. Meanwhile, Rex Wilson, known for being a ‘pocket rocket,’ might need to keep a close eye on Arden Hartley who seems intent on rocketing past in the Under 12 Boys!

New Faces and Familiar Friends

Happy birthday to Xavier Foster and Frances Christodoulou! Frances, formerly our club champ, is apparently back to the pool, promising a comeback worthy of a Rocky sequel!

A warm welcome to our newest club members, the likes of Elysha Fazzalaro and Hugo Beresford-Harvey! We can’t wait to see you stir up the waters soon. Just remember, it’s all fun, games, and a few wobbly dive tumbles until someone touches the wall first!

Indeed, another fantastic splash day invitation to the good vibes by our community’s best, proving once again that we’re more than just a swimming club; we’re a family of finned friends, creating remarkable memories right here in the heart of Drummoyne. Keep those goggles handy and see you next Saturday!

DSC is fundraising to help prevent youth suicide!

This March, Drummoyne Swimming Club is diving in to support Laps for Life, a national swimming challenge raising funds for Reachout.com, Australia’s leading online mental health service for young people.

Why It Matters

Youth suicide is the leading cause of death for young Australians. Every year, more than 1 in 4 young people experience mental health difficulties, yet many don’t seek help. ReachOut.com provides free, 24/7 online support, helping young people navigate life’s challenges with professional resources, peer support, and practical tools to improve mental well-being.

Meet Our Laps for Life Ambassador – Craig Corcoran

This year, we’re rallying behind Craig Corcoran.

Craig, pictured above with his nephew, is a dedicated member of our weekday adult squads and a great fella.

Craig is taking on an incredible challenge—swimming 50km throughout March and raising $2,000 to support young Australians struggling with mental health.

Craig’s fundraising page can be accessed here.

How You Can Help

💙 Donate to Craig’s fundraiser and help him reach his goal.
💙 Cheer him on as he logs his laps throughout March.
💙 Swim your own laps and help raise awareness for this vital cause.

Let’s show the strength of the Drummoyne Swimming Club community by supporting Craig and making a difference in young lives.

Proceeds from last Saturday will be donated to Craig’s cause – we’ll donate the money on a day when the donations are matched. So our contribution will be doubled.

Drummoyne Swimming Club and Laps for Life

Drummoyne Swimming Club has has been a significant contributor to to Laps for Life over the years. We’ve consistently been the top fundraising swimming club in the country. A few years back Ian Thorpe AM- a Reacout.com board member the visited the club to thank us for our fundraising efforts.

Results Week 18

The results for Saturday 1 March 2025, including the 100m Breaststroke Championships and Week 5 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, as the local swimmers made a splash at the Saturday morning meet. Old man weather didn’t know what hit him – sunny skies and only the odd almighty shower later on. A true-blue Aussie pool day!

Highlights from the Pool

Linda Chalker and Sally Kudrna went head-to-head in the Open Women’s 100m Breaststroke. Sally took the victory by a mere whisker, but Linda’s technique remains a thing of beauty.

In the Under 12s, Jude Wilson was ace, clocking 1:40.05 in the 100m Breaststroke, besting his previous time! Archie Murrow had a battle on his hands, but finished strong to nab second place.

Then there was the ever-speedy Skye Lewis, who seems to be racing herself at this point. She snagged first in the Under 12 Girls and the Open Women’s 100m Breaststroke events. Look out champs, Skye’s on the rise like a ripper shark!

Handicap Points Race – It’s Tight!

The Handicap Series heats were a family affray, topping the charts were the Manners family dominating the Under 8s while the Sellars siblings, Luke and Alex, took on their respective heats like seasoned pros. Luke jammed through the 100m Breaststroke in 2:13.72, setting the pool on fire!

Perpetual Battles and Rivalries – Who Had the Edge?

In the Senior Men’s division, Denver Pelly keeps hold of the top spot with his consistent performances. On the flip slide, Adam Christodoulou, while “fast when he feels like it”, opted for a more relaxed approach today – we all know those late-night barbecues can take their toll!

Thomas Pacey showed the young ones how it’s done in his 100m Freestyle Heat with a time of 1:15.69. The Pacey lineage is alive and kicking, spearheaded by the ever-enthusiastic Edward Pacey in the Junior ranks.

Family and Fun Alongside New Entrants

Happy belated birthday to young Lincoln van Loo, who celebrated with a triumph in his 200m Freestyle Handicap heat. The Murrows joined the club recently and have already made splashes in the Under 12s – a mighty welcome to them!

We’ve got a new shooter in the mix too! Archie Murrow plunged into his 100m Breaststroke to grab second place. Keep at it mate – Olympic dreams are made here at Drummoyne!

What a Day at the Pool!

All in all, it’s been just another cracker at Drummoyne. Stay tuned, folks, we’ve got big plans for next week to keep splashing through the summer.

Nobody does it like us – weather can’t hold us back! Catch ya all next weekend!

Week 18: 100M Breaststroke Champs and 400M Freestyle

We’re diving into another exciting week at Drummoyne Swimming Club! This Saturday, we’ve got a fantastic lineup of races, with something for everyone:

🏆 100m Breaststroke Championships – Get ready to battle it out for championship glory!
🏊‍♂️ Molly Wark & Les Henry U/10 100m Freestyle – Week 5 – Our youngest swimmers continue their series.
💪 35 & Over 100m Freestyle – Week 5 – A chance for our seasoned swimmers to shine.
400m Handicap Races – Strategy and endurance will be key!

For those who prefer shorter events, don’t worry—there will be plenty of opportunities to get in the water and race at your own pace.

See you at the pool for another great morning of competition, camaraderie, and fun! 🏊‍♀️☀️

Battle on the Bay

Thanks to everyone who registered for the Battle on the Bay. The event promises to be a fun afternoon and a good chance to compete together as a team. I’m sure we’ll have a red hot crack at wresting the title from Leichhardt, or at the very least lifting the chocolate trophy with our very strong 10 x 50M relay team. The final list of events and relay participants will be available soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Results Week 17

The results for Saturday 22 February 2025, including the 200m Freestyle Championships, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, with the sun shining brightly and a bit of a breeze to keep things interesting! 🌞

Highlights & Splashy Affairs

This week’s meet was jam-packed with action as we hosted the 200m Freestyle Championships. Our young gun, Harry Thompson, set the pool on fire with a new club record in the U10 Boys 200m freestyle! Even Denver Pelly‘s 2016 record took a backstroke to Harry’s speed. 🏊‍♂️🏆

Tom Williams 50m Freestyle Trophy

  • In the Women’s Final, Heidi Chalker proved that a casual “stroll” across the water in 54.18 seconds was enough to claim the top spot! Meanwhile, Elizabeth Allan laughed her way to second place, asking everyone why her handicap isn’t as good as her jokes. 😄
  • The Men’s Final was a nail-biter, with Max Thompson gripping the lead, while Alessandro Rapisarda hot on his heels broke his recent best time!

Budding Rivalries and Family Feuds

The pace was fierce between the Pacey and Thompson families, with Thomas Pacey winking as if to say, “Catch me if you can,” while Edward Pacey cheered his dad on from dry land. The Christodoulou siblings Frances and Adam brought the heat with slick swims – perhaps motivated by nothing more than sheer sibling rivalry. 🔥

Perpetual Trophy Hangouts

Fred Congdon 50m Butterfly heats were all the buzz, with Hannah Aitken emerging as the supreme butterfly queen, surpassing her past best time – surely, goodness is in her gill-bearing genes! 🦋

Newcomers & Club Veterans

Welcome to our new faces, Ella Peake and Max Thompson – they came, they swam, they conquered the complete delight of being part of the DASC family. Meanwhile, legends like Phil Hayward enjoyed a comfy seat this Saturday, aging like fine wine, reminiscing about his glory days. 🍷

Birthday Cheers!

🎉 It’s also congrats to Gerry Tibbertsma, our seasoned “Old Dutch fox,” who stayed dry this weekend but celebrated his birthday yesterday! 🎂

Closing Notes

A huge shoutout to young heartbreaker Harry Thompson for his record-busting performance and all fellow swimmers who’ve pushed the lane ropes in pursuit of their personal bests.

Well done to everyone for making another Saturday morning fun, fresh, and full of splashes. Keep it up; we’ll see everyone next week for another dose of aquatic antics!
