As with the short form events, we run 4 x 30M and 4 x 20M long distance events each week as well.

Results Week 2

The results for Saturday 19 October 2024 have been published here.

Meet Summary: 19th October 2024

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where the splash ‘n’ dash crowd strutted their stuff, handbrake turns and all! Never mind that the wind picked up to blow a dog off a chain, nothing could dampen the competitive spirit!

Banter in the Lane

Thomas Pacey arrived with shoes tied (almost) and was all set to clock a classic delay in the 100m freestyle. Phil Hayward, our lifer and poolside oracle, maintained his steady form while keeping a close eye on times.
The colossal clash between the Sendelbeck kiddos was akin to the Grand Slam, as Lara had em’ for company trying to pinch the points led by Mia who sprinted on like she had a rocket strapped on her back, leaving her siblings to take note!
New kid on the block, Elysha Fazzalaro, showed some promise—when not DQ’d rather poked though—but hey, all the talent starts somewhere.

Championship Shoutouts and Friendly Feuds

In the senior point score, Alec Yaqub was flying like a seagull after a Chippo chip, clocking a speedy finish with a ‘bestie’ at the line over the 100m. In contradiction, Adam Christodoulou trailed behind, ponderously swimming like in a scene from Jaws looking for his handicap start again.
Denver Pelly dropped in, conserving energy to hold on to his champion’s title, while former champs Frances and Adam Christodoulou kept each other’s company on the timing trials—with Frances sweeping past gracefully—as siblings ought to do.

Family Affairs and Rookie Revelations

Among our new prospects creating little waves today were the Rapisarda grandkids, Alessandro and Anna, taking a legendary long dive into the kiddie sprint zone, partly observed by seasoned Grandparent, Patricia Douglas!
Featuring the new debutantes were the Aitken duo, Suzie, as the quickest backstroke poster child and stabling that ritzy First-in-Lane Cup, while Hannah leisurely derricked almost at that top podium spot!

Points to Highlights

  • Swimmers of the Day: Harry Thompson smoked the pool deck, pegging a leading under-10 tally. Goldie going for gold like there’s no tomorrow!
  • Handicap Heroes: The biter bit back in ’20m Backstroke’ where Pat Pelly’s guide? Oh, he didn’t need one—just like a bat in pitch dark!
  • Tantalizing Tussles: Top nekastas in the water should know better than throwing stare downs. Alex Sellars clinched one solid finish, outed the 200m fins champeen and held tight along with rival Will Bolton from the edge of the deeper waters.

And that’s a wrap folks! Keep practicing your aerodynamics, keep tagging times, and see you splashing back next week – suncream applied, excitement amped, rain or shine!

Swim Club and Team App

The Club uses Team App as tool for swimmers to register their details and ‘sign in’ to Saturday race meetings as well as a portal to provide further information and Club news.

It is important that all swimmers sign in to Team App Event for each weeks races so that technical officials can create races and allocate handicaps and lanes as efficiently as possible. This helps us run our Saturday race meets smoothly and means we can all race and then relax!

Detailed instructions about how to join our Team App portal are available on the website.

The images below provide the latest screenshots on how to sign in on a Saturday after our most recent updates (not yet updated on the web).

Remember to sign in for each swimmer in your group and to nominate the distance you want to swim in each race.

Please endeavour to sign in to Saturday’s races by COB Friday to avoid a Saturday morning rush.

First up, select this week’s event…

Secondly, commence the sign in process for the first person in your group

Thirdly, complete the entry for each race.

Select the dash if you don’t want to swim a particular race. Make sure to select the distance you want to swim (or want your little one to swim).

And, don’t forget to select if any of your races will be time trials. This is particularly relevent for people doing a race for the first time or for those moving up from a short distance to a long distance.

Also note that you need to qualify for the 400M Freestyle races. The qualification time is 200M in 200 seconds. If you’re unsure about whether you have reached a qualifying time email Duncan via: racesecretary@drummoyneswimclub.com.au.

Don’t forget to hit save…

Results Week 1

The results for Saturday 12 October 2024 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool

G’day swim fans! Despite the clouds being like that mate who’s always late—took a bit to clear but finally did—we had an absolute beauty of a meet this Saturday morning. The swimmers at Drummoyne Amateur Swimming Club made quite a splash in the handicap point score series, with fierce rivalries, family feuds, and the odd school tie keeping things interesting!

Handicap Point Score Highlights

  • Young Georgie Chalker decided that slow and steady wins the race, clocking in with a stunning improvement to top her heat in the 50m Freestyle. Crikey, she knocked almost 13 seconds off her best!
  • It was a battle royale in the Under 10 category, with Harry Thompson setting the pace in the 50m freestyle, giving young Lara Sendelbeck and her sibling, Mia, a thing or two to ponder over dinner. The sibling rivalry can be hotter than a day in January!
  • Meanwhile, the young guns Tom Smith and Alessandro Rapisarda from St. Mark’s gave it a red-hot go in the Under 8 age group! Both lads tied for first, proving they really do ‘give it a crack’.

Senior Champs & Veterans Glory

  • Hats off to our esteemed veteran Patricia Douglas—fair dinkum, she doesn’t just turn up, she dominates! She keeps all the young’uns honest with another sterling swim.
  • Denver Pelly, our 2024 Club Captain, set a cracking pace in the long swims. Watch out for him stroking his way through the competition like a tour de force!

Latest Gossip and Tidbits

  • Newbies Lisa Arthur and Zoe King jumped in the deep end and started their journey with us—welcome, ladies! Ready to churn and burn with the rest of us?
  • A huge shoutout to Hugo Smith, our charity champ, and his old man, David, for their sterling efforts in Laps for Life. Keep those spirits high!
  • We’re also keeping tabs on our old Dutch fox Gerry Tibbertsma; been here since ’99 and he’s still rocking the start gun like a pro. Nice work, Gerry!

Special Mentions

  • A round of applause for our techie whizz-kid Brad Thompson, who’s learning the ropes of tech at the club. Keep those circuits buzzing, Brad!
  • Club Social Queen, Leni Wilson, always makes a splash on and off the pool deck. Keep those updates coming, Leni!

Great job, everyone! Until next time at the water’s edge, where we’ll put the ‘roo in the pool one lap at a time, no worries!

Help Wanted with Timekeeping!

Just a reminder that we always need parents and swimmers to act as timekeepers! This helps ensure our races run as smoothly as possibly on Saturday mornings.

Things work best if we have non-swimmers doing the timing, but if you are swimming as well as timing, it is a good idea to team up with someone that swims different heats to you.

Timing is very easy to do – just pick a lane and press the buttons on the blue stopwatches when your swimmer touches the wall.

The final step is to write down the times on the stopwatches onto the time sheet, in case we need to refer to them as a backup.

Most importantly, if you’re called to swim while you are timekeeping, don’t just leave the lane. Grab another person to take your place or let the chief timekeeper know you need a replacement.

Each week we need someone to act as the Chief Timekeeper. This role sounds fancy but it’s quite simple too. The Chief Timekeeper gets to hold the walkie talkie and answer queries from the club room about times in particular races.

You can nominate to act as Chief Timekeeper using the duty roster function in this week’s event on TeamApp.

More on time keeping

DSC runs meets using our own specialized database and the Dolphin wireless timing system. The system is operated from the club room by the Race Secretary and Club Room Technicians in conjunction with the pool deck officials – the Marshall, the Starter, the Referee and the Timekeepers (with one timekeeper acting as a Chief Timekeeper). Club meets run smoothly when all officials are able to focus and coordinate their activities. The Timekeeper role is responsible for recording swimmers’ times in their lane – electronically with the stopwatch and in writing on the timesheet. Occasionally, we have problems with the Dolphin wireless system and accurate written timekeeping is the single best way to make sure that our swimmers’ times are recorded as accurately as possible.

Before racing starts

  • Report to a lane
  • Check that the lane has:
    • a folder with a timesheet and sharp pencils,
    • write the lane number on the timesheet,
    • two (2) operational blue dolphin stopwatches.
    • check that the stopwatches have the same number as the lane
  • Check that you know who is acting as the Chief Timekeeper
  • Confirm that you know what the format of the race is,
  • Communicate verbally to the Chief Timekeeper that everything is in order with your lane so we can start…

We’re off and racing

  • Confirm what race is coming up. If it’s a 50M race (or a 30M or 20M race) head down to the shallow end,
  • Once you are ready, verbally signal to the Chief Timekeeper that you are ready. The Chief Timekeeper will signal to the Starter once all timekeepers are ready,
  • If you have no swimmer in your lane, write NS in the row for that race
  • One the race has started check that the timers are working and that time is ticking away,
  • As the swimmer is nearing the finish step up to the edge of the pool so you can clearly see the swimmer touch the wall,
  • Hit one or both of the black buttons on the stopwatch as the swimmer touches the wall
  • Write the displayed times down on the timesheet in columns A and B in the row for that race (double check that you are writing the results against the correct race row)
  • Repeat as above…

Notes:

  1. The stopwatches will start automatically. There is no need to re-set them between races,
  2. If the race is more than 100M count laps so you are aware of the finishing lap.
  3. If you are called to marshall for your next race, continue timing until the end of the current race and advise the Chief Timkeeper that you need to be replaced. The Chief Timekeeper will find a replacement for you.
  4. Never leave your lane until the current race has been recorded properly.

Assistance

If something goes wrong or you are not sure about what to do next, ask a fellow time keeper, the Chief Timekeeper, the Starter or the Referee for assistance. It’s important to speak up straight away so we can minimise compounding errors.

The M9 Concept

Consider the letter M. This letter stands firmly on three foundational pillars that construct a robust structure (YOU). The initial pillar is Mechanics—what functions smoothly and what requires improvement? The second is Metabolism—what constitutes your actual dietary intake? Lastly, we have Movement – what habits are you willing to change?

Are you prepared to challenge both your body and mind?

All these systems need to be working together in order to achieve optimum results for the long haul too. The M9 program focuses on metabolic conditioning and resistance-based movements aligning with your body’s natural energy systems. M9 aims to clients fit, healthy and strong through tailored programming. Not only will this ensure you start where you are at but it also minimises the risk of injury.
