It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool

G’day swim fans! Despite the clouds being like that mate who’s always late—took a bit to clear but finally did—we had an absolute beauty of a meet this Saturday morning. The swimmers at Drummoyne Amateur Swimming Club made quite a splash in the handicap point score series, with fierce rivalries, family feuds, and the odd school tie keeping things interesting!

Handicap Point Score Highlights

  • Young Georgie Chalker decided that slow and steady wins the race, clocking in with a stunning improvement to top her heat in the 50m Freestyle. Crikey, she knocked almost 13 seconds off her best!
  • It was a battle royale in the Under 10 category, with Harry Thompson setting the pace in the 50m freestyle, giving young Lara Sendelbeck and her sibling, Mia, a thing or two to ponder over dinner. The sibling rivalry can be hotter than a day in January!
  • Meanwhile, the young guns Tom Smith and Alessandro Rapisarda from St. Mark’s gave it a red-hot go in the Under 8 age group! Both lads tied for first, proving they really do ‘give it a crack’.

Senior Champs & Veterans Glory

  • Hats off to our esteemed veteran Patricia Douglas—fair dinkum, she doesn’t just turn up, she dominates! She keeps all the young’uns honest with another sterling swim.
  • Denver Pelly, our 2024 Club Captain, set a cracking pace in the long swims. Watch out for him stroking his way through the competition like a tour de force!

Latest Gossip and Tidbits

  • Newbies Lisa Arthur and Zoe King jumped in the deep end and started their journey with us—welcome, ladies! Ready to churn and burn with the rest of us?
  • A huge shoutout to Hugo Smith, our charity champ, and his old man, David, for their sterling efforts in Laps for Life. Keep those spirits high!
  • We’re also keeping tabs on our old Dutch fox Gerry Tibbertsma; been here since ’99 and he’s still rocking the start gun like a pro. Nice work, Gerry!

Special Mentions

  • A round of applause for our techie whizz-kid Brad Thompson, who’s learning the ropes of tech at the club. Keep those circuits buzzing, Brad!
  • Club Social Queen, Leni Wilson, always makes a splash on and off the pool deck. Keep those updates coming, Leni!

Great job, everyone! Until next time at the water’s edge, where we’ll put the ‘roo in the pool one lap at a time, no worries!
