Results Week 8

The results for Saturday 30 November 2024, including Week 1 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where clouds were merely nature’s sunscreen as we dodged a few sprinkles and embraced a northerly breeze that kept us on our toes!

Highlights of the day included the much-anticipated final of the George Wheaton 50 BBB, where young George Wheaton Jr., all of ten years old, presented the time-honored perpetual trophy. True to his great-great-grandfather’s spirit, George Jr. added a bit of spark to the proceedings.

Our own Thomas Pacey and Ian Allan showed the youngsters how it’s done in the 100m Freestyle Handicap, finishing in the top spots. It seems birthday cake might be their secret training regimen as they celebrated recent birthdays not too far back! Thomas showed off his anniversary medal, 25 years in the club – that’s a lot of laps!

In the under-8s, Henry Finn gave his big sister Alena a run for her money, or rather, her points as he racked up more than a few and kept us all entertained. The Lewis siblings were out in force, with Jaxon Lewis putting Sydney Secondary College’s pool on notice with some solid swims!

Hayden Howard from Trinity Grammar dazzled with his freestyle technique, as did his rival Xavier Foster, although he was more focused on securing his expert claim: “I’m just building suspense until I peak,” he announced with a grin.

The long swim of the 400m freestyle saw Frances Christodoulou take a dive into the deep end, her siblings cheering from the sidelines but opting for a bit more doughnut than daring water challenges today. Meanwhile, Rich old veteran Gerry Tibbertsma took to race starting with the finesse of the ‘Old Dutch foxer’ he is renowned to be.

If you’re on social media, you probably haven’t missed Leni Wilson’s highlights. She’s our club’s influencer and her coverage always captures the best dives and drives, though none can truly capture the fabulous fry-ups on the BBQ.

Finally, big kudos to George Mandarakas winning today’s 100m Freestyle Handicap event – you rocked it, and those 4 points nudged you up the standings quite handily!

A remarkable Saturday morning at the pool, where the clouds danced above but rain and thunder decided the competition poolside was too heated to jump in. Hats off to our swimmers, new and seasoned, for another splashtastic Saturday!

Results Week 7

The results for Saturday 23 November 2024 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, and despite the mostly sunny skies and light winds keeping us on our toes, there were plenty of cheers and laughs echoing through our beloved aquatic arena.

Highlights of the Day

Today’s meet brought the excitement of the first trophy race of the season, featuring the nail-biting final of the Geoff Roper 200m Freestyle Handicap. Phil Hayward, our beloved race referee, showed us he’s still got it by taking out his heat in the 50m Freestyle – not to mention, Clare Douglas needed her parent’s help for motivation as she tried her best to overtake Patricia, but just couldn’t catch up.

Friendly Rivalries and Stellar Performances

  • It was nice to see William Taylor back in action! Although he is usually fast when he feels like it – maybe Frances Christodoulou wasn’t pushing him hard enough!
  • In the youngsters’ showdown, Alessandro Rapisarda managed to lead in the Under 8s. Not far behind, little Anna Rapisarda wished upon a star to make this race another top experience.
  • The Point Score saw familiar faces at the top as Thomas Pacey outpaced the rest in the tough 50m Butterfly heats. The famous “What’s my handicap start again?” Thomas Pearson couldn’t make it today, but we’re sure this will ignite his competitive fire for next week.
  • Over in the Senior Men’s category, it was Paul Martin taking out the glory, but the gap is closing with Denver Pelly barely needing to break a sweat by securing a solid time trial score.

Butterfly Kicks and Cheeky Grins

The 100m Butterfly heats started this week, and congratulations to William Taylor for leaving the ‘fast when he feels like it’ legacy behind, acing his best time yet. Meanwhile, our friendly rivalry between the Tunstall and Christodoulou families flied higher with each lap, every swimmer bringing their clap-bearers on.

Hats Off to the Trophy Event Stars

A massive high-five to trophy winner Harry Finn, who took his family’s footsteps seriously and came home with the groundbreaking Geoff Roper perpetual trophy. There were some new best times, inspired by friendly rivalry and urging not to be outdone by family members.

Our underdogs from Drummoyne Public, the Arthur siblings, get special recognition for their spirit, and they even offered birthday ripples to Lisa Arthur. Cheers to all swimmers enjoying pool parties! 🎂🎈

Finally, Rose Tunstall, our mega-fan favorite, marched along with plenty of support as she nudged just ahead. She never misses a Saturday, and it shows!

The swim of the day goes to Pocket Rocket aka Rex Wilson, who’s persistence in the 50m Freestyle paid off, grounding someone again to save a time!”

We’re all winners at heart here at DASC and what a fantastic race meet it was! Bring on next Saturday, mate!

Results Week 6

The results for Saturday 16 November 2024 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where the sun shone with the hope of victory even as clouds threatened an afternoon downpour.

Highlights

Our sprightly aqua warriors took to the water in thrilling races marked by fierce rivalries and gallant performances, with the Tom Brown 50m Backstroke heats teasing us with anticipation for the finals on February 15, 2025. Let’s dive into the finer splash of details:

In the 100m Freestyle heats, young gun Archie Murrow surprised everyone by taking first place in his heat, chalking a thumping great improvement by touching over 23 seconds faster than last week! Meanwhile, our own “Old Dutch foxer,” Gerry Tibbertsma, demonstrated that a bit of age hardly means a lack of pace by taking the top spot in his heat with style.

Special congrats to Thomas Pacey, who celebrated his recent birthday with a triumphant swim, clocking a winning time in the Five Dock Rotary 200m IM, and edging fellow front-runner Denver Pelly, our 2024 Club Captain.

Standout Battles and Fun Tidbits

The sibling rivalry within team Christodoulou carried on in style, with Frances and Adam heckling each other between heats. Adam displayed his whimsical side, consistently shrinking his personal best by simply “feeling” faster!

Rose Tunstall, the ever-present pool dynamo and former Club Captain, turned heads with her performance in the Tom Brown heats, staying true to her reputation of never missing a Saturday. Her consistency did not go unnoticed among the crowd of revved-up fans and family!

On the handicap point score leaderboard, Mia Sendelbeck continues to shake up the standings, embodying the very essence of grit and steady improvement. She’s a rising star whilst also managing sibling guidance to Lara and Eva on the sidelines.

New shoal member Archie Pacey had his own moment in the sun this morning. Even without hitting the water officially today, he’s ready to make waves soon, as the club’s cheer squad is already rallying support for this little force of nature!

Weather and Well Wishes

While the weather threatened, those optimistic north-easterly breezes made for a good half-day before any drips dared challenge our water-lovers’ spirits. Remember, strong forces seep only beyond our pool’s edge in Drummoyne!

In parting, a warm welcome aboard to all the new recruits making their first waves today. And a hearty round of applause for all birthdays celebrated poolside with celebratory splashes and community cheers.

Keep those caps tight and goggle straps secure, see you next week for yet another round of watery delights!

Results Week 5

The results for Saturday 9 November 2024 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, and let’s be honest, we’ve seen better forecasts. As the cloud cover came and went, the swimmers stayed put, braving the somewhat unpredictable skies. With a slight chance of a shower looming, the enthusiasm was anything but dampened – a little water’s never stopped a good race, right?

George Wheaton BBQ Incoming: The heats for the legendary George Wheaton BBB Trophy were on fire today! The Club’s old treasurer would have been proud watching the butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke rivalry splashing through the lanes. With a final showdown scheduled for November 30th, the competition is just warming up.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Olive Murrow, from Russell Lea Primary, showed what she’s made of, sauntering in at 1:00.42 in the 50m Freestyle Heat; top of her heat, young Olive’s a real contender for the big final!
  • Little Lightning Yunos Yaqub stormed the pool in Heat 2, clocking an impressive 49.67 seconds in the same event. Keep an eye on this Russell Lea primary prodigy!
  • From the Senior Men’s category, Paul “the Fish” Martin, grabbed the spotlight again. His 50m routine looked effortless, although we suspect he’s saving his best for the finals!
  • Adrian “the Marathon Man” Bell kept the races exhilarating as expected. The club president was giving everyone a run for their money in and out of the water. “The Old Dutch foxer” Gerry Tibbertsma and rival Duncan Lyon have got some competition brewing!
  • Elizabeth Allan, the younger half of the Allan twins from Rosebank College, continued her streak in freestyle, ensuring no one forgets about her title as 2024 Open Women’s Club Champion. Her sister was busy with the club IT but cheering all the way!
  • And let’s not forget Georgie Chalker, she may be new to the pack, but racked up some solid points for Russell Lea Public in her first couple of swims.

Family Ties and Rivalries:

The Douglas clan was out in full force with champion matriarch Patricia and daughter Clare clocking respectful finishes yet again. It seems little Anna Rapisarda is destined to continue the family legacy!

The Taylor siblings were at it as usual. William looked primed for a comeback by Christmas, but the gauntlet this season seems to have been picked up by Lukas. Christian, the younger Taylor, opted to watch from afar – perhaps plotting strategic swim moves for his comeuppance soon!

Welcoming New Faces:

The club was thrilled to welcome newcomers, including Elysha Fazzalaro from All Hallows Catholic Primary. And with many more on the sidelines, we’re expecting an even bigger turnout in the coming meets.

Birthday Cheers:

With birthday celebrations just behind for Camille Borozan and Oscar Hale, both promised there’d be more cake post-race-day!

Despite the clouds making a fleeting appearance, spirits stayed bright and the good folks of DASC cemented their bonds — family, school, and community, one splash at a time. Until next Saturday’s meet, keep swimming, keep smiling!

Results Week 4

The results for Saturday 2 November 2024 have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where our eager swimmers took to the water with gusto, despite some northerly winds trying to steal the show.

Let’s give a loud Aussie cheer for the swimmers who qualified for the Geoff Roper 200m Freestyle Trophy final happening on the 23rd of November. If you’re keen on a sneak peek of the trophy contenders, it’s a field of strong competition – watch your backs, folks!

The 100m breaststroke made its debut this season, and boy was it a showcase of gritty performances! The likes of Phil Hayward and Clare Douglas threw down the gauntlet with fierce style as they stormed the length of the pool. Phil did an absolute ripper job, finishing on top in his heat. Keep your eyes peeled for these stalwarts!

And speaking of ripping through the water, Thomas Pacey, our longtime club warrior, clinched the 100m Freestyle heat like the champion he is, with his stopwatch reflecting a personal triumph. His daughter, Jessica Pacey, as new to the club as a hot summer’s day, might just be the next big thing once she gets going – welcome, Jess!

Skye Lewis, representing Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus, got her engine revving in the 100m Freestyle too! Alongside her brother, Jaxon, the Lewis siblings are gaining momentum over their competitors. Don’t go taking your eye off them just yet.

Special shout-out to Adrian Bell, our trusty Club President and all-around good bloke, who not only runs marathons but directs club meets with as much enthusiasm as a seagull chasing a hot chip!

Notably, it was a family affair with the Douglas-Rapisarda clan making a splash, reinforcing the amateur spirit of competitive banter. Keep at it, ladies!

Whether you’re a salty old veteran like our famed “Race Starter” Gerry Tibbertsma or one of the bright-eyed new recruits such as Yunos Yaqub from Russell Lea Public School, today’s display in the pool deserves hearty applause. It was grand to watch everyone giving it their all, each stroke pushing boundaries and lighting the path to personal bests.

Let’s have another dazzling meet next Saturday, folks. Until then, let’s not just chase our points but keep basking in the camaraderie across the pool lanes—family on deck, fun in the sun!
