Results Week 14

The results for Saturday 1 February 2025, including the 100m Butterfly Championships and Week 4 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, with the partly cloudy skies and those cheeky easterly breezes giving us a bit of cover and a friendly nudge along the lanes!

Let’s dive into the action from our Saturday swim-a-thon with plenty of our homegrown talent hitting the headlines! Congratulations to Fergus Beresford-Harvey who led the charge in the under 14 boys 100m Butterfly, leaving the rest of the pack in his wake. Equally impressive was young Jaxon Lewis, who sliced seconds off his recent best, outpacing the competition in the under-16 boys’ dash (let’s not mention he got overloaded in the Open’s and crawled out DNS – Dead Not Swimming – sorry, Jaxon, had to be said!).

Elizabeth Allan was toggled so fast in the under-16 girls and open women’s categories, she’s now earned herself the title of Cross-Category Butterfly Queen! She’s not the only butterfly in the Pacey family’s bonnet though—Dad, Thomas, flew his way to top standing in the Senior Men’s titles as well. Meanwhile, William Taylor was clocking some serious wing drag in the Open Men’s, showing the younger crop how it’s done, while keeping competition within the family high.

In the Handicap Point Score series, Thomas Pacey continues to lead the Seniors Men’s domain. If you’re not careful Thomas, we’ll start calling the leaderboards the Pacey Legacy! Frances Christodoulou is keeping her place at the top for Seniors Women, with plenty of heat from Sally Kudrna and Cath Thompson nipping at her heels.

Handicap highlights saw Hannah Aitken continuing to show impressive progress in the ‘Molly Wark 100m Freestyle Handicap’ event, with Bronte Manners making a strong statement, netting solid times in the under 10 girls categories. Special mention to Saskia’s stupendous splash in the pool saw her fish out extra points in the Under 6 free—don’t stop pushing!

Also, we can’t ignore our Own Dutch Foxer, Gerry Tibbertsma, formerly fancy-footed, who’s now ramping back to race-winning form with his sprightly endeavours. He must have passed a bit of that foxy spirit to rival Duncan Lyon, who’s returned to form after shoulder-fixing antics.

No Drummoyne report would be complete without a nod to our newbies! A warm welcome to the fresh faces splashing about, like Cath Thompson’s stellar kids—who are making waves of their own.

Back next week, where the sky promises sunshine and swimmers guarantee speed – until then, stay hydrated and keep the freestyle flowing!

Results Week 13

The results for Saturday 25 January 2025, including the 50m Backstroke Championships, have been published here.
It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where the DASC gang assembled for some splashy shenanigans, and only a slight chance of a shower—ideal for a little rain dance between races! The banter was as lively as the splashes, with families, friends, and fierce rivals making waves in the 50m backstroke championship and 4×100 medley events.

Championship Highlights

  • Max Thompson stole the show in the Under 6 Boys 20m backstroke, cruising to gold with a nimble 30.84 seconds. “Look out, Michael Phelps!” someone shouted from the stands. Meanwhile, Archer Godden navigated the pool with the grace of a schooner through a storm, placing second.
  • Henry Godden turned the Under 8 Boys 30m backstroke into his own magical moment, finishing first with a speedy 34.84, just a fin ahead of Alessandro Rapisarda. That’s one more for the Godden trophy cabinet!
  • Leni Wilson didn’t record a time today in the Under 14 Girls 50m backstroke, but she’s still making waves as our social media queen. Keep those likes coming, Leni!
  • Elizabeth Allan proved yet again she’s got the spirit (and speed) in the U16 Girls and Open Women’s backstroke. Chat among the parents was how her technique could grace the syllabus at Rosebank College, if she isn’t already teaching them! Charlotte, watch out; big sis is setting the bar high!
  • Not to be outdone, Daire Henderson powered through the Seniors Mens 50m backstroke, securing the top spot and waving his club flag high.

Handicap Showdowns

  • Jude Wilson played a wild card in the 50m Freestyle. He’s consistent and penetrative—nailed first place in the Open Mens, setting every opponent on their flippers!
  • The U8 scene was lit with Henry and Alessandro’s clash—they’re fighting it out like Dory and Marlin in the ocean’s depths. Points me hearties, points!
  • Let’s not forget Club’s senior swimmers, Phil Hayward and Gerry Tibbertsma, both participating despite not having swum today. We salute you for officiating instead!
  • Finally, kudos to Georgina Aitken, the youngest Aitken affiliate; she’s on her way up the ranks, inspired by mum Suzie’s senior point score victory.

Special Mentions

  • Rose Tunstall, our steadfast 2021 and 2022 Club Captain, brought her charm to the pool once more, ensuring every swimmer left their mark!
  • Welcome to all our newbies and happy belated birthday to Miles Foster! There’s nothing like celebrating with a swim and a birthday cake!
  • A shout-out to our dedicated committee: presidents, champions, and marvellously loud race marshals like Matthew O’Connor—can we hear a hurrah?

In essence, it’s the people who make DASC what it is—with each paddle, battle, and untapped talent making each Saturday special. We look forward to more races, surprises, and friendly rivalries next time. So, whether it’s sunshine or drizzle, we’ll see you poolside!

Results Week 12

The results for Saturday 18 January 2025, including Week 3 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, perfect for a splash even though the morning clouds had us doubting if the sky would fall. But hey, with those legendary Aussie smiles, what’s a bit of early drizzle?

Heats, Finals, and the Handicap Point Score Battles: This exciting Saturday featured heats for the 50m Bill Gallie Handicap Breaststroke trophy race and the George Russell 400m trophy showdown. The kids under 10 and the sprightly 35+ squad continued their 100m freestyle face-offs. Nothing like starting the new year with clean entries and underwater kicks!

  • Bill Gallie 50m Breaststroke – Heat Bragging Rights: Young Yunos Yaqub made waves claiming the first heat, with our beloved Race Referee Phil Hayward pulling a place! A special shoutout to Frances Christodoulou in the later rounds, showing us why she’s been a Club Captain. However, little Olive Murrow had a banger of a time despite being DQ’d. You still swam fast, kiddo!
  • George Russell 400m Freestyle – High Dramas: Matthew O’Connor, known for calling races more than swimming them, won his heat while young gun Hannah Svoboda chased down the pack with pure grit for second. Hannah, claimed another bragging right for the family, even securing captain street cred. What a family effort!
  • Rivalries and Legends: The legend Gerry Tibbertsma and his long-time rival Duncan Lyon were at it again, in their signature ‘who blinks first’ challenge. It’s a blistering battle, with Gerry, affectionately dubbed the “Old Dutch foxer,” reigning supreme in today’s 100m freestyle heat. Duncan, don’t worry mate, we’re sure next time you’ll impress!
  • Family Feuds: Got the Douglas clan on fire under Clare’s guidance, scoring points up against her mum Patricia! Also, young Harry Thompson was out to prove something to his nonchalant sister Eve, making splashes in the freestyle heats. Who needs Netflix drama when you’ve got intense family face-offs, huh?
  • The Young Guns: Alexandra Fazzalaro showed the under-10 boys in the Molly Wark 100m Freestyle that the girls mean business, taking first heat place, showering applause on her remarkable effort. It was also thrilling to see lines showing up at RSVP from the Drummoyne Public School. Keep those goggles tight, guys!

Flames were sizzling on deck as Frances Christodoulou claimed the 50m race with the calm finesse of a former Club Captain. Yeah, she’s still got it, no doubt! And in another sibling poolside brawl, Jaxon and Skye Lewis had contrasting priorities today – Skye in attendance, Jaxon sneaking out for a pie, probably.

New joinees weren’t hiding out either. Despite some DNS (Did Not Start) amongst rookies like Isabella Murrow, that freshly joined energy is sure to surface wins soon. Moreover, our veterans like Rose Tunstall stood by poolside with unyielding support, showing why this club is more about community than competition.

All in all, a smashing Saturday morning! The Drummoyne spirit was in ample supply, booking promises of brighter splashdowns next meet. So, polish those kickboards and hydrate well, rougher tides await – but come sun or rain, we always rally on at beautiful Drummoyne Pool!
“`

Overall, a delightful day at the pool with achievements, rivalries, familial contests, and conveys the club’s vibrant community spirit.

Drummoyne Amateur Swimming Club Race Results – 21st December 2024

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool. The winds were doing a little dance—from north to northeast—before they calmed down for a lazy evening.

Club Championship Highlights

Hold on to your goggles! The 50m Breaststroke Club Champs served up excitement with fierce rivalries and smashing personal bests. Young gun Alessandro Rapisarda outpaced his rivals, slicing down his recent best to emerge victorious in the Under 8 Boys, while Lara Hartley wowed us all by surpassing her recent best time in the Under 8 Girls.
  • Under 8 Boys: Alessandro Rapisarda, who had his grandma Patricia Douglas cheering loudly, blitzed to the top.
  • Under 8 Girls: We saw a disqualification storm as Phoebe Noach got caught by the technical rulebook, but not before gaining DQ status for swimming with a bit more ‘fetch’ than ‘breast’.
  • Seniors Division: Claresta Hartley put those juniors on notice with a 50.11 outright speed in the breaststroke. Meanwhile, a swifty Santa repaid the competition with well-deserved festive cheer.

Handicap Point Score Blow-by-Blow

Every meet’s got its dark horses and Max Thompson made sure he was the undisputed king of the Under 6s with no fancy starts but pure swim grit earning him a top spot. Little sister Cara wrote her legacy by zooming in the Under 8s. Santa would be proud of your dedication, mates! Special nod to lifeguard-hopeful Luke Sellars, who bagged the gold with a tight finish in Under 14 Boys, proving that practice beats even the toughest competition.

Family Hurrah and Birthdays

Welcome onboard to the Peat family, diving right into the holiday spirit, and to young champion Skye Brombley, who decided to splash out a first race debut at a mere one year old! Talk about breaking the water’s surface with a bang, eh? Let’s not forget our birthday cooldown—a big cheer for all the December babies! May your year be as full of fun and family as our poolside barbie was today.

Cup of Cheers

Tip of the cap to Denver Pelly, your 2024 Open Men’s Club Champion and clearly the one who set the swim lane on fire! And another wave to Elizabeth Allan for keeping her hold tight on the Open Women’s North Star trophy.

See you in the New Year! Let’s dive back into tip-top poolside antics, good vibes and perhaps, an inflatable rubber duck race. Until then, may your strokes be smooth and your mince pies plentiful!

Results Week 10

The results for Saturday 14 December 2024, including the 50m Butterfly Championships and Week 2 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, with the sun taking a peek-a-boo behind the clouds, keeping the weather comfortably mild. The buzzing chatter of splashes echoed around as swimmers dived into the weekend’s splash-tacular events.

Butterfly Club Championships

Today, the pool was churning with excitement for the 50m Butterfly Club Championships. A special shout-out to Henry Godden who flew through the water like a young Ian Thorpe, clocking in at a stellar 40.63 seconds, smashing his previous best by almost a whopping 10 seconds!

Phoebe Noach came out swinging in the Under 8 Girls Butterfly, making waves with her win, and sporting a gold-time finish of 54.82 seconds. In the testosterone tumbles, teenager Hayden Howard led the pack for the Under 14 boys, beating his personal best like it was yesterday’s tea!

George Russell Handicap Heats

The George Russell 400m Freestyle Handicap heats had some serious shoulder-to-shoulder racing. Luke Sellars zipped to first place, surprising everyone and likely himself, with an impressive 10:01.46. Keep your eyes on him – he’s sneaking up the ranks faster than a hot snag off the barbie!

In her heat, Hannah Svoboda showed everyone why she Club Captain last year, delivering a finishing time of 6:59.90, earning her well-deserved bragging rights at the brekkie catch-up!

100m Freestyle Events

Let’s not forget the rip-snorting Under 10’s. Harry Thompson, marking his 49.04-second triumph, is surely running high on sugar from those Tim Tams he had earlier. On the women’s side, Ava Cochrane proved again that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard, with a great freestyle maneuver taking her to third overall!

Senior Shake-up

Among the Seniors, Matthew O’Connor, our Chief Race Marshall, busted out a solid performance, leaving his loud voice at bay and letting his swimming do the talking as he clocked a remarkable 1:44.04 in the Men’s 35 and over 100m freestyle handicap heat.

In the Female senior category, Frances Christodoulou dazzled with her butterfly stroke finesse, taking top honors in the Seniors category. Her former Club Captain credentials shining bright as always! Current Club Captain Elizabeth Allan pipped her out in the Open Women’s though.

New Faces and Veterans

A hearty welcome to new joiners and a nod to all the swimmers celebrating their birthdays underwater! The community spirit at DASC is as strong as Vegemite on toast, and ain’t nothing gonna change that!

From newbie nugget to veteran legends, DASC had a splash-tastic day celebrating the joy of swimming, camaraderie, and, of course, the cheeky banter we hold dear. So until next Saturday, keep those caps dry and goggles polished!

Results Week 9

The results for Saturday 7 December 2024, including the 50m Freestyle Championships, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool

G’day, swimming tragics! Despite the clouds playing a game of “Are there showers on the horizon or not?”, the pool was packed with action this Saturday, 7th December 2024. With a forecast promising a sprinkle or two, it was a perfect excuse to make some waves!

Highlights of the Day

First up, a huge shout-out to young gun Harry Thompson who stole the show by setting a brand-new club record, and brace yourselves, because the Five Dock Rotary 200m Individual Medley Trophy event saw some epic race finishes!
We had a special appearance from across the pond, Christian Taylor dropped by from the USA, showing off some smooth strokes in the 50m Freestyle Championship. Christian, you made it look like a leisurely dip!

Showdown of the Champions

  • Under 6 – Male: Max Thompson blitzed the pool with a 25.80 in the 20m Freestyle to secure top spot. Archer “Little Speedster” Godden and Arthur “The Mighty” Pacey gave it a red-hot go as well!
  • Open Championship: It was the Brothers Taylor battling for glory. Christian edged out his bro William by a whisker. Local legend Matthew Svoboda put up a fierce fight too!
  • Seniors – Female: Danielle Johnston showed age is but a number by clinching the 50m Freestyle with a swift 30.90, leaving the competition in her wake!

Handicap Point Score – Dash and Splash

The Handicap series was all about strategy and squeezing those seconds where you can:

  • Mia “The Missile” Sendelbeck showed her class with a top performance in the Under 14 Girls’ 50m Freestyle. Her win was as sweet as a Macca’s soft serve on a summer arvo.
  • Luke “Leapfrog” Sellars wasn’t just making up the numbers in that tough Under 14 – Male category; he bagged a handy 54 points to sit pretty at the top of the standings!

Family Fun and Rivalries

The Christodoulous were at it again, with Frances and Adam vying for supremacy in the pool. Uncle Phil Hayward, our trusty Race Referee, kept a keen eye on the races, making sure nobody got too cheeky!

In a heartwarming touch, Patricia Douglas’ absence was felt, but granddaughter Anna was ready to take on her legacy, soon enough! All in all, it was family fun at its finest, with friendly rivalries and all-around camaraderie.

Closing Note

Despite the overcast day, spirits were as high as the Sydney Harbour Bridge on an Australia Day long weekend. To our swimmers, keep pushing, keep splashing, and we’ll see ya next Saturday for another round of aquatic antics!
