Results Week 8

The results for Saturday 30 November 2024, including Week 1 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where clouds were merely nature’s sunscreen as we dodged a few sprinkles and embraced a northerly breeze that kept us on our toes!

Highlights of the day included the much-anticipated final of the George Wheaton 50 BBB, where young George Wheaton Jr., all of ten years old, presented the time-honored perpetual trophy. True to his great-great-grandfather’s spirit, George Jr. added a bit of spark to the proceedings.

Our own Thomas Pacey and Ian Allan showed the youngsters how it’s done in the 100m Freestyle Handicap, finishing in the top spots. It seems birthday cake might be their secret training regimen as they celebrated recent birthdays not too far back! Thomas showed off his anniversary medal, 25 years in the club – that’s a lot of laps!

In the under-8s, Henry Finn gave his big sister Alena a run for her money, or rather, her points as he racked up more than a few and kept us all entertained. The Lewis siblings were out in force, with Jaxon Lewis putting Sydney Secondary College’s pool on notice with some solid swims!

Hayden Howard from Trinity Grammar dazzled with his freestyle technique, as did his rival Xavier Foster, although he was more focused on securing his expert claim: “I’m just building suspense until I peak,” he announced with a grin.

The long swim of the 400m freestyle saw Frances Christodoulou take a dive into the deep end, her siblings cheering from the sidelines but opting for a bit more doughnut than daring water challenges today. Meanwhile, Rich old veteran Gerry Tibbertsma took to race starting with the finesse of the ‘Old Dutch foxer’ he is renowned to be.

If you’re on social media, you probably haven’t missed Leni Wilson’s highlights. She’s our club’s influencer and her coverage always captures the best dives and drives, though none can truly capture the fabulous fry-ups on the BBQ.

Finally, big kudos to George Mandarakas winning today’s 100m Freestyle Handicap event – you rocked it, and those 4 points nudged you up the standings quite handily!

A remarkable Saturday morning at the pool, where the clouds danced above but rain and thunder decided the competition poolside was too heated to jump in. Hats off to our swimmers, new and seasoned, for another splashtastic Saturday!
