This week we have the heats for our world famous George Wheaton BBB trophy race.
BBB is short for Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. It’s a unique event in which competitors race each other with different “B” strokes in the same race on handicap. So, a swimmer in one lane may swim Butterfly, another Breaststroke and a third Backstroke!
The George Wheaton BBB trophy is the most coveted trophy in the club and has a long and proud history. Although the trophy came about because of a tragedy, the trophy has helped maintain a long term connection and tradition with the club. Check out the history of the trophy detailed on the club’s website.
Select your preferred stroke when signing in to Team App for the event on the 9th.
This week our races are:
50M Freestyle
50M BBB – George Wheaton Trophy Heats (and backstroke for the 30M and 20M races)
400M Freestyle
For anyone who wants to look ahead, the weekly racing calendar is available here.

All swimmers and TeamApp
Just a reminder that all swimmers need to sign-up to our Team App portal and nominate their races to participate in Saturday racing. Please nominate your preferred races by COB on Fridays and remember to select Yes if any of the races you are doing are time trials (i.e the first time you’ve done a particular race).
Registering by COB Friday helps our esteemed Race Secretary and his team of technicians, the amazing Elizabeth and Charlotte Allan seed the races and minimizes delays to the day’s activities.
Instructions on how to do this are available on our website. If you have any queries about this process please reach out to Adrian on 0424 561 831.
Swim Central Registration
Formal swim club registrations are open. You can formally register by heading to Swim Central. Formal registration is required after you’ve completed a 4 week trial to ensure you’re covered by the club’s insurance policy.
Don’t forget to tell your friends about our 4 week try before you buy free trial. If you know anyone that is interested in swimming but not sure if they want to commit without trying it out let them know they can come along to 4 weeks of swim club before they have to sign up.
New swimmers will just need to sign up to our TeamApp portal so we have enough details to enter them into races…

The BBB is a unique race in which the competitors race against each other swimming their favourite “B” stroke – Breaststroke, Backstroke or Butterfly!
The race is named in honour of George Wheaton – a former secretary of Drummoyne Swimming Club who tragically died after racing his four sons in a “Father and Son” race at the Club in 1937. The trophy was inaugurated in the 1939-40 season and is one of the Clubs most sought after prizes.
The Wheaton family have confirmed that family members will join us pool side for the final, which this season is set for Saturday 30 November.
For more than four decades, the Cole Classic has been a cornerstone event at the iconic Manly Beach. It’s one of the world’s most celebrated ocean swim events. And every year a number of Drummoyne Swimming Club swimmers make the trek to Manly to participate.
This summer the Cole Classic will be held on Sunday the 2nd of February 2025. As usual the options are 1 km, 2 km and 5 km.
If you are thinking about doing an ocean swim this is the event for you.
It was marvellous to see swimmers coming together last Saturday to fight it out for their suburb in the Canada Bay Cup relay. Congratulations to the swimmers in the Bay Area Barracudas (representing Wareemba, Rodd Point and Abbotsford) who took out the trophy. Thanks to Mayor Michael Megna, our Club Patron, for attending and presenting the trophy to the winners.
