Drummoyne Swimming Club raised the most money of all the Swimming NSW affiliated clubs that participated. The prize for this achievement is a club visit from Ian Thorpe AM. We’re currently in discussion with Ian Thorpe’s management team about an appropriate time for the visit. Keep an eye out for more details about this as they come to hand.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the challenge and to everyone who donated to this great cause.
There were some very generous last minute donations that ensured we stayed at the top of the SNSW leader board and fought off the spirited challenge from the Boolaroo / Speers Point Swimming Club from Lake Macquarie.
As well as taking out the top Club prize we also had the top fund raised amongst SNSW Club members in Noah Hale. For his exemplary fundraising efforts Noah has been awarded a training session at SOPAC Homebush with Adam Kable the NSWIS Olympic Park Hub High Performance Coach and members of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team.
Whilst Noah achieved the top spot on the SNWS individuals leader board he certainly wasn’t the only DSC swimmer to raise an extraordinary sum of money. He was closely followed by Cohen van Loo and all our other DSC participants who included Davina Kite, April Horton, Narelle Horton, Emily Horton, Georgina Maniscalco, Oscar Hale, Lois Waller, Olivia Nichols, Ruby Nichols, Eliza O’Neil and Adrian Bell.
The last meet of the season was a lot of fun. We broke all records for the biggest chocolate trophy to ever grace the deck of the Drummoyne Pool. Thanks to Jodie van Loo for spending the hours to make it – and for keeping her boys Cohen and Lincoln away from it.
Jodie was somewhat bemused when Cohen and Lincoln along with Noah and Oscar Hale swum the race of their lives to win the trophy meaning all that chocolate was headed back to their house… The boys took 8 seconds off their heat time in pursuit of the chocolate in the final. Well done!

The 2021 Geribo Cup
Boogie Board and Novelty Races
The kids all had fun with the boogie board and other novelty races but not as much fun as Adam Christodoulou who MC’d the events. Adam took great delight disqualifying Matthew Svoboda in the thong race.

800m Freestyle Championship
The novelty events followed 4 heats of the 800m Freestyle Championship. Jessica Bell and Sienna Joshi-Kraus obviously didn’t swim hard enough as they were all smiles after a tight finish.

Drummoyne Swim Club kids have been busy at school and representative carnivals over the last month. This is a summary of some of the great results they achieved.
All Hallows Five Dock
Isaac McManus and Fletcher Williams cleaned up at the All Hallows swimming carnival. They took out 1st or 2nd place between them in every event. Great work boys!
St Mark’s Drummoyne
The Romaniuk kiddies lead the way at St Mark’s with Georgie and Esther putting in strong performances. Georgia qualified for the 50m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle Relay at Zone. She then proceeded on to the Regional Carnival and did a PB.
Esther, not to be outdone by her younger sister qualified for zone in 100m Freestyle, 200m IM, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 50m Butterfly (take a breath) and the freestyle relay. She then swum her way to regionals for the 50m and 100m Freestyle, the 50m breaststroke and the 50m Butterfly plus the relay. Esther made her way to the State trials for 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke and swum PBs in those events.

Drummoyne Public School
Across the road at Drummoyne Public School Abigail Kerr took out the Junior Girls title at the school carnival and won her 50m Freestyle event at the zone carnival. Moving on to regionals Abi swum another PB and came home all smiles.

The Howard boys did their best shark impersonations with Will coming in second in the 8years 50m Freestyle and heading off to Zone for that event. Big brother Hayden was the Junior Boys Champion and at both the school and zone carnivals and made it to Regionals in the 50m freestyle.
Sydney Secondary College – Balmain
Jaxon Lewis continued in his father’s large footsteps and took out the breaststroke race at Sydney Secondary College and went on to compete at zone.
Rosebank College
At Rosebank, Lily Borozan beat all comers in her age group to be age champion. Lily went on to win 3 individual events and the relay at the SCC carnival and competed at the NSWCCC (Combined Catholic Colleges) carnival in 5 events.

Club Captain Tadhg Donnellan flew the club’s colours at St Mary’s and qualifies for the CCC representative carnival in both the 4 x 50m freestyle relay and 4 x 50m IM relay.
On another note, Tadhg also recently finished 6th at the Huskisson Super Sprint triathlon.

Russell Lea Public School
Russell Lea ventured to Sydney University this year for their swimming carnival. Held indoors, a last minute relaxing of COVID restrictions meant a limited number of parent volunteers could attend. Needless to say, but the school office now knows, there is a high level of parent interest, particularly from those who attend DSC on any given Saturday.
It was great to see almost 30 students students with Drummoyne Swim Club experience get in the pool and swim with such confidence and inner belief that has grown from their weekly squad training and Saturday morning club events.
From the successful school carnival there were 23 students representing Russell Lea at the Western Suburbs PSSA held at Auburn Aquatic centre. A record number of representatives and the strongest performance in the schools short swimming carnival history.

Achieving 2nd place as a School in the proportional point score – with many top 15 places and individual success for Skye Lewis who won the U8’s 50m Freestyle (by a massive 2.2secs!) and Russell Lea’s first ever successful Senior Girls relay led by Jessica Bell, Charlotte & Elizabeth Allan and Willow Meares (who promises to come to DSC next summer) taking first place. Both Skye and the relay team were fortunate enough to compete at regionals the following week at Homebush Aquatic centre coming in 19th, and 9th overall.

Well, we’ve reached the end of another season of swim club and to finish off we have the 800m Freestyle Open Championship and our Family Fun Day.
800m Open Championship
The 800m Championship is open to all ages, for anyone who can complete the 16 lap distance.
The 800m races start at 7am sharp, so please sign-in and arrive by 6.45am if you wish to enter.
Family Fun Day
The Family Fun Day will commence after the 800m Championships, which we expect to be around 8am. You can plan to arrive at this time if you’re not swimming in the 800m event.
Note: If you’re only planning to swim in the Fun Day events, but not the 800m Championship event, please only sign-in for the Fun Day on Team App for COVID tracking purposes when you arrive at the pool (eg. around 8am) so that we can separately identify swimmers entering the 800m event.
The Fun Day races include:
Family Relay – 4 x 50m freestyle relay for family groups (or combinations thereof)
Geribo Cup Relay – 4 x 50m freestyle relay for the tastiest trophy of the season, made from pure chocolate!
Over and under race
Boogie board race (BYO boogie board, lilo or other fab floaty)
Thong race (BYO thongs)
The Peacock – a perfect vehicle for the Boogie Board race: not sure what happened to the jockey…
The Geribo Cup
The highlight of the morning will be the Geribo Cup. Named after legendary squad coach Norma Geribo, the Geribo Cup is ever changing but one thing is always a given, the trophy is made of chocolate. This season Jodie van Loo is planning a chocolate extravaganza so make sure you’ve got your entry sorted.

Past members’ morning tea
Don’t forget that this Saturday we’ve got our past members morning tea. All former swimmers are welcome to come along for morning tea and to swim. The morning tea will commence at the completion of the 800m races – so approximately 8am and will run for the rest of the morning.

Presentation Night
Our Season 2020-2021 Presentation night will be held at the Concord Bowling Club (next to Concord Library) on the evening of Saturday the 29th May 2021.

Winter Swim Club
Thanks to everyone who completed the survey about winter swimming at swim club a few weeks back. The results showed that too much swimming is never enough for DSC members.
So, we plan on running 4 x winter swim club meets over the winter period.
As with previous years Winter Swim Club meets are likely to be held at the Riverview College Indoor Pool on Sunday afternoons and will be held once a month from June through to September.
More details will be provided once available.

New Club Constitution
The Club committee has been reviewing our constitution – which is now a little out of date and overdue for a revamp.
David Parker has kindly done the pro bono work and drafted a new document for us.
We’ll be circulating a copy to all members ahead of the Presentation Night which will also act as an extraordinary general meeting.
Members will have the opportunity to vote on adopting the constitution at the event *.
Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday the 23rd August 2021. All members are encouraged to attend and participate.

DSC continues to sit in top spot on the Swimming NSW Club fundraising Laps for Life Leader board. We’re also the 15th highest fundraising team nationally!
As at the time of writing we’ve raised an extraordinary $6,241, swimming 2,362 laps!
That’s over 147 x 800m Freestyle Championship races!!
Thank you to all the swimmers who are participating and to all those who have donated.
There is not long to go now so please keep up the laps and keep hunting for donations for a very good cause.
The bad news is that this Saturday is our last week of standard racing… but the good news is that we have one further week with the 800m and the Geribo Cup (the Chocolate trophy relay).
