Drummoyne swimmers at the ACT Winter Short Course Championships

There was some pretty exciting swimming on last week with the Fukuoka World Aquatic Championships. But, even more exciting than that were the performances of Drummoyne club swimmers at the ACT Winter Short Course Championships. The event was held at the AIS pool in Canberra.

Erica Bhatti, Jessica Bell and Hayden Howard were all in Canberra over the weekend churning up the pool and fighting it out with kids from Canberra and all over the State.

Hayden placed 3rd in the 9-12 200M Breaststroke race and set new PBs in all 6 events that he entered.

Erica secured PBs in all her events and achieved a 2nd place in the 11&U 50M Backstroke and a 3rd place in the 12&U 100M Freestyle.

Jessica secured 4 PBs in her 5 events.

Well done to our swimmers! If they keep improving they’ll be back at the AIS on residential swimming scholarships!

Even though they are Drummoyne swimmers it would be rude not to acknowledge that the kids were representing the clubs that they do their squad training with. Erica and Hayden were representing Leichhardt and Jessica represented PLC Sydney.

Drummoyne Swimming Centre is going GREEN

Canada Bay Council are working towards net zero emissions by 2030. As part of their Emissions Reductions Plan Council are making improvements to both Drummoyne and Cabarita swimming centres.

Over 2023 – 24 Council will replace the gas boilers at Drummoyne Swimming Centre with a new heat pump system and add solar panels.

The gas boilers at Cabarita were replaced earlier in the year and cut Council’s gas usage by 50%. Drummoyne Swimming Centre is the final big gas consumer operated by Council.

Given that Council purchase 100% renewable electricity, it will be good to know the warm water we swim in is no longer contributing to a warming planet.
