Who is this Ian Thorpe bloke?

Ian Thorpe is an Australian swimming icon who needs no introduction to most of us over 30s. And a lot of the youngsters will know him from his excellent commentary stints on Olympic broadcasts. Some of the youngsters may not know why us adults are quite so excited about Ian joining us pool side this weekend. So, to help get them up to speed (and to relive some amazing memories) find below a bunch of clips of Ian’s feats.

And later that night… Ian Thorpe anchors the Australian 4x 100M relay team to a memorable victory.
Four years later Ian Thorpe went on to win both the 200M and 400M Freestyle events at the Athens Olympics beating Peter van den Hoogenband and Michael Phelps in the 200M race, which was dubbed “The Race of the Century”.
