Battle On The Bay This Saturday!

This Saturday is the 10th Annual Battle On The Bay Swimming Carnival! Being held on home turf this year, it all kicks off from 3pm, this Saturday afternoon!

As well as all the usual races and relays, we have a few surprises up our sleeves. A very special Drummoyne local / Olympic medallist will join us on pool deck and maybe in the water for a relay if we’re lucky!

The raffle this Saturday will be one of the biggest in Battle on The Bay history with over $2,500 worth of prizes to be won thanks to our sponsors below:

This raffle is not to be missed. Grab your tickets on the day!

As the Carnival is on a Saturday afternoon, we do advise swimmers to get there early to get a park. It will be busy, so please allow ample time.

We are also still looking for volunteers on the day to help with timekeeping and other jobs. If you would like to help contact Tim: president@drummoyneswimclub.com.au or volunteer on the day.

It should be another riveting Battle on the Bay with plenty of medals and prizes on offer! Every swimmer will win points towards the trophy for the fastest Club on the Bay and the fastest swimmers in each age group will fight it out for the prized 10th Anniversary Carnival Medals.

The highlight of the Carnival is always the 4x50m Freestyle relays followed by the exciting 10x50m relay show-down between the fastest swimmers from each Club.

This year we have the home town advantage. Go Drummoyne!

Battle On The Bay Less Than Two Weeks Away

Battle on the Bay

We’re less than two weeks away from the 2019 Battle on the Bay Swimming Carnival on Saturday 9th March 2019

It’s our turn to host the carnival this year, which we initiated back in 2010 as a competition between neighbouring swimming clubs located in the Iron Cove Bay area. The Carnival has been a huge success and is now into its 10th year!

This year Drummoyne will be competing against Ashfield, Enfield and Leichhardt Swimming Clubs to determine the fastest Club on the Bay! Every swimmer will earn valuable points for their Club in the fight for the Battle on the Bay Trophy and the fastest individual swimmers will be awarded Age Group medals. The highlight of the Carnival is always the relay events, culminating in the thrilling 10x50m Freestyle relay between the fastest swimmers in each club.

The Carnival will start promptly at 3pm and finish at 7.30pm on Saturday 9th March 2019. Swim Club will be on as usual in the morning. We will have a BBQ and grand raffle prizes on offer at the Carnival.

Entries are $6 per person. We will be collecting entries and fees this Saturday, so please bring along cash to pay.

You can choose to race Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. Under 6’s will race a 20m distance. 7-8 year olds will race 30m in all strokes but, for Freestyle, can choose to race 50m instead of 30m. Everyone else will race a 50m distance in each stroke.

Further information about this year’s Carnival can be found here. We look forward to all of our Club members joining in to help us win the ultimate prize – the Battle on the Bay Trophy!

Historic Tom Brown Final Ends With Close Finish

Last Saturday morning on pool deck we had the final of the historic Tom Brown 50m Backstroke Handicap race. It was great to have Brown family members in attendance including life member Lynette Brown and her sister Jenny who are both granddaughters of Tom Brown.

It was a an excitingly close race with Jessica Bell taking out first place from lane 3. The trophy was presented by Lynette and Jenny as well as Tom’s great grandchildren. Congratulations all who made the final!

We also had the 100m Freestyle Championship Open Mens and Womens age group and open heats. Will Taylor took home the Mens open heat while Annette Jamieson zoomed to first place in the Womens open heat. Congratulations to all swimmers!

Junior Squads Back This Week

Junior Squads are back this week! Junior squads are open to any of our junior members. Squads are down at Drummoyne Pool in Lanes 1 & 2 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 5:30am.

Junior squads are a great way to keep fit and train up for Saturday morning meets. Improve your swimming skills and have fun in a great social squad!
