Go Craig! You’re hitting Laps 4 Life goals!

Our Laps 4 Life ambassador Craig Corcoran is hitting his goals in the Laps 4 Life Challenge.

Craig set a revised target of $2,000 and has reached it with 13 days to spare in the month.

On the swimming front, Craig has also been motoring along. He’s well on track to swim 50km this month.

Keep going Craig! You’re doing a great job to support Reachout.com, Australia’s leading online mental health service for young people.

Why It Matters

Youth suicide is the leading cause of death for young Australians. Every year, more than 1 in 4 young people experience mental health difficulties, yet many don’t seek help. ReachOut.com provides free, 24/7 online support, helping young people navigate life’s challenges with professional resources, peer support, and practical tools to improve mental well-being.

Results Week 20

The results for Saturday 15 March 2025, including the 100m Backstroke Championships and Week 6 of the 100m Freestyle Special Events, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool – the sun was mostly out, and if you missed it, well, better luck next Saturday when the breeze blew in the scent of fresh chlorine!

Our Under 10s were off to a flying start in the 100m freestyle handicaps, with Hannah Aitken and Ava Cochrane battling it out in a tight finish. Hannah clinched the win, but Ava was hot on her heels, proving that the youngsters of All Hallows Catholic Primary are a force to reckon with! Meanwhile, over in the Les Henry Cup, Michael Tripolitsiotis smashed his personal best, leaving young Archie Sullivan scratching his head, wondering what just happened! The Drummoyne Public pride is strong with this one!

Jumping up to the over 35s, the cheeky battle between Clare Douglas and Patricia Douglas – old enough to know each other’s tricks – brought a good chuckle among the crowd. The heat went to Mary Hartley with her steely 100m freestyle, narrowly edging out the now-permanent-smile-wearer, Clare. Congratulations to the clan Douglas for keeping family rivalries alive at the pool!

Not to be outdone, the experienced Denver Pelly was back to his winning ways in the 100m Open Men’s backstroke. Having recovered from his shoulder escapade, Duncan Lyon still offered stiff competition, keeping Gerry Tibbertsma on his toes with a finish that almost needed photo evidence!

And we couldn’t miss the chance to cheer on our fearless Frances Christodoulou, former club captain and club champion, strutting her backstroke stuff in the Seniors’ category. With the wind at her back, even Rose Tunstall, 2021 and 2022 club captain, couldn’t wipe the grin from Rose’s face as they shared some friendly banter in the lanes.

In the Club Championship and Handicap Point Score competitions, Thomas Pacey is cruising in the seniors’ male category, but Paul Martin isn’t far behind. Mia Sendelbeck, still high on recent birthday cake, is balancing the scales in the Under 14s with her wits and impressive ledger of lifetime memberships from relatives to guide her!

We also say a big hello to all the newcomers who gallantly saw through their first Saturday club meet. Your fearless strides into uncharted waters are what make DASC the powerhouse of community spirit and competition. A special shoutout goes to Belle Paton for bringing the best cheer squad in the crowd!

So, escape the mundane, grab a pair of goggles, and join us for next week’s splash-fest, promising more glory, giggles, and glory again in our humble patch of Drummoyne waters!

Battle on the Bay Wrap-up!

Drummoyne Swimming Club Shines at the 2025 Battle on the Bay!

Results and other information from the 2025 Battle on the Bay will soon be available on the club’s website.

The 2025 Battle on the Bay Swimming Carnival, hosted by Ashfield Swimming Club at Ashfield Aquatic Centre on Sunday, March 9th, was a spectacular event filled with fast swims, fierce competition, and outstanding team spirit. Drummoyne Swimming Club put on a fantastic performance, securing third place overall in the team rankings with a total of 3,981 points.

As usual the relays were a real highlight. We didn’t quite get there this year to take home the chocolate trophy in the 10 x 50M relay. But generally speaking our teams did exceptionally well, helped along by the large contingent of supporters cheering them along.

Our swimmers excelled across multiple age groups, achieving impressive individual rankings and showcasing their dedication and talent.

Results Week 19

The results for Saturday 8 March 2025, including the 4x50m Individual Medley Championships, have been published here.

It was yet another beautiful day at Drummoyne Pool, where the sun was a bit shy, ducking behind clouds, but thankfully sparing us from any serious soakings. A touch of wind tried to whip up the waves, but nothing could dampen the spirits of our swimmers, young and old, as they plunged into this weekend’s aquatic adventure.

Cracking Records and Reigning Champions

Young Harry Thompson was the talk of the pool on Saturday morning, smashing Denver Pelly’s under-10 record with an astonishing 4x50m Individual Medley time of 3:15.98. Denver, who’s now dabbling in university life, might have to brush up his skills to reclaim this title!

Meanwhile, Hannah Aitken dominated the Fred Congdon 50m Butterfly, gliding past her rivals with the grace of a training dolphin. Granny Douglas’s pride was absolutely beaming from the bleachers!

Showdowns and Sibling Rivalries

The inter-family tussle was alive and well. In the Under 8 Boys 4 x 30m Medley, Alessandro Rapisarda and his cousin Henry Godden fiercely swapped positions, with Alessandro finally finishing first. The Godden household, however, won’t be any less proud of Henry’s impressive runner-up performance.

Handicap Points Galore!

Thomas Pacey remains untouchable atop the Senior Men’s Handicap leaderboard, while Jenny Gaskin squeezed ahead in the women’s division with a mere point lead. Stay tuned, folks, it’s tight!

In the younger circuit, it’s a barn-burner as Elizabeth Allan continues her commanding lead in the Under 16 Girls, while the Under 10 boys see Harry Finn carving through like a speedboat. Meanwhile, Rex Wilson, known for being a ‘pocket rocket,’ might need to keep a close eye on Arden Hartley who seems intent on rocketing past in the Under 12 Boys!

New Faces and Familiar Friends

Happy birthday to Xavier Foster and Frances Christodoulou! Frances, formerly our club champ, is apparently back to the pool, promising a comeback worthy of a Rocky sequel!

A warm welcome to our newest club members, the likes of Elysha Fazzalaro and Hugo Beresford-Harvey! We can’t wait to see you stir up the waters soon. Just remember, it’s all fun, games, and a few wobbly dive tumbles until someone touches the wall first!

Indeed, another fantastic splash day invitation to the good vibes by our community’s best, proving once again that we’re more than just a swimming club; we’re a family of finned friends, creating remarkable memories right here in the heart of Drummoyne. Keep those goggles handy and see you next Saturday!

DSC is fundraising to help prevent youth suicide!

This March, Drummoyne Swimming Club is diving in to support Laps for Life, a national swimming challenge raising funds for Reachout.com, Australia’s leading online mental health service for young people.

Meet Our Laps for Life Ambassador – Craig Corcoran

This year, we’re rallying behind Craig Corcoran.

Craig, pictured above with his nephew, is a dedicated member of our weekday adult squads and a great fella.

Craig is taking on an incredible challenge—swimming 50km throughout March and raising $2,000 to support young Australians struggling with mental health.

Craig’s fundraising page can be accessed here.

How You Can Help

💙 Donate to Craig’s fundraiser and help him reach his goal.
💙 Cheer him on as he logs his laps throughout March.
💙 Swim your own laps and help raise awareness for this vital cause.

Let’s show the strength of the Drummoyne Swimming Club community by supporting Craig and making a difference in young lives.

Proceeds from last Saturday will be donated to Craig’s cause – we’ll donate the money on a day when the donations are matched. So our contribution will be doubled.

Drummoyne Swimming Club and Laps for Life

Drummoyne Swimming Club has has been a significant contributor to to Laps for Life over the years. We’ve consistently been the top fundraising swimming club in the country. A few years back Ian Thorpe AM- a Reacout.com board member the visited the club to thank us for our fundraising efforts.
