Gold for Bronte Marshall at the Special Olympics!

Congratulations to Bronte Marshall, who was selected to represent NSW at the Special Olympics Nationals held in Melbourne on 20-25 October 2014.  The Nationals are held every 4 years between swimmers from every state.

Bronte had an extremely successful campaign, returning home with the following medals:

Bronte’s strong performance has put her in contention for selection to represent Australia in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles and we wish her all the best!

Geoff Roper – Trophy Presentation Day

We were delighted to have Geoff Roper as our special guest at the Drummoyne Swimming Club Trophy Presentation Day on Sunday 18th May 2014.

Geoff was Club Treasurer in the 1970’s and gave members a fascinating speech about his family’s swimming achievements and the results of research that showed a positive link between children’s active involvement in swimming and their academic success, before presenting the Geoff Roper 200m Freestyle Handicap Trophy, named after him.

Christian Taylor wins 100m Backstroke in NSW State Age Championships

Congratulations to Christian Taylor on an outstanding performance in the NSW State Age Championships on 17-18 January 2014.

Christian achieved a gold medal in the 11 year old Boy’s 100m Backstroke and a bronze medal in the Boy’s 11 years and under 200m Backstroke.  He rounded his medals off with these other impressive results:

  • 4th place in the 11 year old Boy’s 50m Freestyle
  • 6th place in the 11 year old Boy’s 100m Freestyle
  • 17th place in the 11 year old Boy’s 4 x 50m Medley
  • 20th place in the Boy’s 11 years and under 200m Freestyle

Christian Taylor wins 100m Backstroke in NSW Metropolitan Championships

Congratulations to 11 year old Christian Taylor on winning the Men’s’ 11 years 100m Backstroke event at the 2013 NSW Metropolitan Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Sunday 7th December 2013.

Christian also came:

  • 4th in the Men’s 11 years 100m Freestyle event,
  • 11th in the Men’s 11 years 100m Butterfly, and
  • an impressive 28th against older boys in the Men’s 13 years & under 200m Backstroke

George Wheaton Tribute Day recognised in Federal Parliament

Following on from our memorable George Wheaton Family Tribute Day on 30th November 2013, our local Federal Member, Craig Laundy, recorded this important piece of our Club’s heritage in a speech to the Federation Chamber of the Australian Parliament on Thursday 5th December 2013.
