Sun Shines Down On Another Packed Saturday Morning

It was another fantastic morning last Saturday morning down at Drummoyne Pool.

The day started with the competitive 50m Freestyle Championship heats, with competitors fighting for a spot in the Open Heats. The men’s and women’s Open heats were tight races with William Taylor and Annette Jamieson taking them out respectively. It was just milliseconds between Annette and runner up Gabrielle Perkins! Congratulations to all swimmers!

Womens Open Heat

We also had the anticipated trophy final of the Five Dock Rotary 200m Individual Medley Handicap. It was an arduous final with lane 6 hitting the water after a 60 second handicap. Ultimately, it was Elise Borozan’s race to win as she took out the trophy within a second of runner up Caragh Price. Congratulations to all that made the final!

Come On Down To Squads

Squads are a great way to get in some extra fitness and practice for race day during the season. Members of Drummoyne Swimming Club have exclusive access to lanes 1 and 2 every weekday morning down at Drummoyne Pool.

Full Club members can participate in Saturday meets and morning squads are part of their membership fee.  If you would only like to attend morning squads, you can join as a Squad Member for $50 – a great way to meet other members of the club while also staying fit. For more details click here.

Drummoyne Swim Centre Survey

We encourage all our members to fill out the survey by clicking here. By filling out the survey it is a valuable way to provide feedback and make known any changes you would like to see made at the centre. There are also 2 x 50 passes to the pool to be won!

BBB Final To Remember

The George Wheaton 50m BBB handicap race is one of the most hotly contested and historic trophy races of the season.

George Wheaton was a former secretary of Drummoyne Swimming Club who tragically died after racing his four sons in a “Father and Son” race at the Club in 1937. His last surviving son, Noel, who was racing with his father that day, sadly passed away three years ago.

It was a very close race last Saturday with competitors performing their absolute best. Only days back from Alaska, James Simmons managed to blast into first position and take the trophy. His cold water training in the Arctic paid off! Exhausted after hitting the wall to win, James took in the win after taking in some deep breaths. Excellent work!

Congratulations to all other swimmers, all of whom swam breaststroke except for Gabrielle Perkins who did backstroke and achieved a PB!

It was a special moment with members of the Wheaton family on pool deck. The trophy was even presented by 4 year old George, the great great grandson of the trophy’s namesake.

Weekly Raffles

Saturday morning raffles have been a tradition down on pool deck for years. The raffles are an important fundraising initiative by the club which puts much needed funds into the club.

Just recently we repaired our start timer. Without the support of our members buying tickets every Saturday morning, the club wouldn’t be able to afford much needed upgrades. All funds raised keep the club going and ensure our members have an enjoyable and smooth meet every week.

We are always on the lookout for new raffle prizes. If anyone would like to donate a prize or a hamper or know of any businesses that would donate please let us know.

Big Handicaps Power Swimmers To Push To The End

It was a sunny morning down on pool deck last Saturday and it was time for the final of the Geoff Roper 200m Freestyle Handicap race.

With an 86 second handicap between lanes 1 and 2 and even more for the other 4 swimmers, it was going to be a tough ask to win from a lane other than 1. Once all swimmers finally entered the water, it was clear it was going to be a close race. Swimmers gave it all they got with all of them swimming the last lap together. Swimmers crept up and it was eventually Samuel Eastwood in lane 1 who took out the trophy! Congratulations Samuel!

It was a fantastic effort from all the finalists and a special shout out goes to Andrew Sharpe who with a 133 second handicap from lane 6, made up massive ground and delivered an incredible swim. Never has it been so close from the most handicapped swimmer!

Congratulations all swimmers!
